The article is the AL-KO Toughest Tow Test Part 2. As part of this test a Pajero has been combined with a 19'6" JB Scorpion Off Roader. In the article the comment was made that the "mighty Pajero nearly met its maker" due to an over heating problem (didn't say whether transmission or engine related). When you look at specifics of the van tested, Tare of 2680kgs, Tow ball weight of 210kgs and an ATM of 3500kgs, Pajero owners know that this combination is illegal. This has not taken in to account that the van has three water tanks (255kgs full), two solar panels, two batteries, gas, HWS, plus extra "stuff" clothes, food, grog, tools, chairs, tables etc, etc. The ATM of 3500kgs could have easily been achieved. Not the weight to be legally towed by a Pajero. It's no wonder the car nearly died. It also mentioned that the drivers had some hair raising moments traversing the steep inclines etc. I'll bet they did.
This article gives potential caravan buyers and people looking to marry up suitable tow vehicles the wrong information and proves that even the experts can get it wrong. Unless I'm missing something here I hope that the editors of CW at least acknowledge in a future edition that the combination of the van and Pajero was not in the public's best interest.
