Our trip to Exmouth 2017 towing the 6mtr boat Part 8

Back on the water we are fishing just the two of us and its sail fish time. The boat is in the water and underway by 6.30am as the dame winds will be up again by 10am.

We clear North passage and all the weed floating in the water (dying from the hot water temps) makes towing teasers (big fish attractors and Birdie daisy chian ) through the water makes for hard work. We head West North West till we get away from all the weed.

Again all the gear is set and we are looking all the time for working birds to leed us to the bait schools of fish and our quarry.

I have all the hard work of watching the gear out the back while driving the boat at the same time. The game fish will feed lower in the water column when the upper water temps are so high. By going wider we get the temps down to 28deg and spot a few schools of bait. Fingers crossed as we troll past and bingo our gear raisers a feeding school of sailfish.

Hook up we are on, then a second fish on. Take the helm Lambie and take the boat back to idle. I lock into the first fish and it runs hard. I use a full shoulder harness to control the rod I'm holding so I can clear the teaser and birdie chain. The second rod is left in the holder as we are only to up in the boat.

Whit the boat moving forward slowly I can control one fish, the second fish is gone. that's what happens without the extra crew. Can't be helped.

We get the camera's ready, gloves ready and lots of patience to get the fish up and along side to release, take some photo's and swim the fish to freedom, to fight another day.
