Hot water system

Hi all, if somebody could help with some info would be greatly appreciated. Cold water system works fine, hot water well thats a different story, after turning on hot water system gas or 240v same problem, pump works fine until you open hot water tap, the pressure is ok for about 15 seconds then the pump starts ramping or pulsating introduce just a small amount of cold water the pump is fine and water pressure ok but cold, turn off cold water the pump starts pulsating again as if there is air in the lines and no hot water coming out, turn hot water tape off pump ramps until i guess lines are full then pump stops as it should, turn hot water tap on again and same thing repeats, if just running gold water no problem at all, I am at a lose to what the problem is, maybe there is a blockage somewhere?? or is there a filter after the hot water system which could be blocked??, problem is on all 3 hot water taps in motorhome, sink, shower, hand basin..cheers Bob  confuse

Hello bob1420

I am not a Plumber

Firstly welcome to the forum

It could be a number of things

It sounds as though you either have air in your hot water tank, or a restriction of water going from the hot water tank to the pump

If you tell us what model hot water system you have, someone with that system, may have experienced the same problem

Sorry that this is not the answer you are looking for, but the best I can do

RE: Hot water system,

Hi . Had the same problem on new van. Check valve connected to tempering valve wrong direction. Look for arrow for flow direction.

Hot water system

I have looked at the manuals which Possum3 has put a link to, so thanks for that Possum3

There is a model SUBURBAN SW6DE without the A on the end, but their manuals do not show the plumbing system to the taps, only the boiler side of things

Jayco usually use either Suburban or Truma, and unfortunately I have got the Truma model

I would firstly be making sure that there is no air in the boiler, by opening the pressure relief valve, while someone is opening a hot water tap just a little
This should eliminate air in the system, if you had run out of water

If this does not cure the problem, then I would be looking for a blockage in a valve/filter between the pump/boiler and the tap

If you are using outside pressurised water from the mains/house/caravan park, connected directly to your van, then I would be looking at the metering valve

I hope that this generic information is helpful, if not and if no one has had your problem, then you will have to get a plumber to look at it

I am led to believe that Suburban is a popular model, and that parts should be easily obtainable

Edited to say that pharken philsom had given the cure to his similar problem, while I was dithering

Many many thanks peps, have taken everything on board and am currently investigating, tony your words of wisdom i think have lead me in the right direction, found one of the in line filters blocked, but alas as soon as you breath on the housing you guessed it it breaks, in the process of replacing well my son is he can get under the motorhome...lol, going to replace the whole 4 of them, will keep you up to date, and thanks again...cheers

I have seen this situation before. The cause was pieces of black plastic swarf from when drilling into the tank outlets eventually flows through the plumbing and causing a partial blockage, usually at the inlet side of the pump. When the water flow becomes restricted noise and pulsation occur. Usually only requires undoing of connection with fingers and removal of debris.

i hope this is of some assistance.

Cheers Allen.

Alan, many thanks you were spot on, and who said this site would not be able to help you. tony put me on the right track earlier, by doing some investigation on what he said I discovered potential problems that would have been a pain in you know where more than likely half way across the nullabor, many thanks guys most appreciated your thoughts and wisdom, and you have saved me well lets not go there what a plumber or rv repair shop would have charged... one happy little chappy here
