Newbies to the forum & travelling. We are leaving for the Cape in 2 weeks & are a bit confused as to the time & distance estimates we are for travelling between destination. Can anyone suggest an itinerary especially between Coen and the Tip?

If you are up at the crack of dawn, theres not a line up for the ferry, everything works in your favour you may see the sunset of Cape Yoke after a long day.
When we did it a few years back now, like 18 years there was no line up for the ferry, a night in Archer River, we visited Weipa for 2 nights, 1 night at Branwell Station, a night at the falls.
Arrived into Seisa late in the afternoon, it was probably 2 days later before we got to the Cape. We were there to explore and enjoy
One of things about the Cape slow is better, more slower is better still. Roads can be rough and dusty. I believe the traffic is extremely busy up there now.
Depends on your routes.
Are you going to Weipa? That would add a couple of days.
Are you going to try the OTL Track, or going via the Bypass roads?
If using Bypass roads, suggest that from Coen, you could camp a night at Twin Falls/Elliott Falls, then make Seisia or Punsand the next day. The Falls are a must.
Captain Billy Landing is worth a look.
Apart from the Tip of the Cape, the Somerset area is worth a visit.
Also consider a side track to Chilli Beach/Portland Roads. That would add 2 days at least.
To go one way via Lakefield NP and Battlecamp Road to Cooktown also recommended. Camping at Kalpowar and/or Hann River is great.
My 1998 Travels section of my thisadventurousage blog details the time we spent on Cape York and the things we did there.
This is a great place with a lot to see, so take your time. If you have no time limit work your way up on one side of the Cape and the other side on the way down. It is a shame you have to book all site in the National park areas. You can't use the mobile phone at most places, but it will work at a couple of the Ranger Stations, so book site by phone when you can. You will need to know when you are going to arrive at the site.
Other camping is not too bad.
Again take your time and have a good look and a good time.
