carpet of wildflowers across southern Western Australia

"Yahoo"  Hook up your Caravans Boys and Girls, The Wildflowers are a coming.......

Heavy summer rain and devastating floods across southern Western Australia have left an unexpected legacy an early start to what is expected to be a bumper wildflower season.

A close up image of a bright purple orchid taken near Ongerup, Western Australia.

What a beautiful orchid. We are going over on our long service leave next year and plan to time it with the wild flowers.

Surprising how many wildflowers are flowering all year round IF you get out of your car and go for a bush walk (and not only here in the west). But yes the seasonal ones will be spectacular this year down south

I am with you on that Sufil.  Even in the middle of a drought   the Flora in the Australian Bush is amazingly unique. There is always something doing it's thing.

Talking with Alan Tinker ( late of Western Flora C/P Eneabba)  a few years ago.  He was saying that in his research,  a very wet winter did not necessarily mean an exceptionally good Wild Flower bloom in the following  Spring.

His records showed a tendency for the plants to Bloom much better the year after in  spring. As long as a normal winter rain had happened of course.

Almost as if the plants sensed an abundance of moisture and concentrated on putting roots down, storing energy,  more than spectacular flower  displays.   Interesting concept.

Alan is retired now.
