Please be aware no warning signs!!! Road Still Closed!! We are at the rest stop on the Great Northern Highway 1 and half hours South of Pt Hedland. Horrific accident. 3pm day before yesterday. Truck and 2 caravans were stopped at Bridgeworks. A fully laden cattle road train came from behind and couldn't stop. Total carnage. No warning signs about the accident. Feel so very sad for them.

Three weeks ago we left Carnarvon at 7am on Saturday morning heading back home. 187km south of Carnarvon at 9am we saw a cloud of dust ahead of us. A white Nissan patrol towing a fully laden box trailer, veered off the Hwy and summer salted many times. They were on their way to Coral Bay for a camping holiday. The carnage was the same.
We both rendered first aid for three hours till St Johns Police and RFD arrived. Two Adults and Four Kids.
Please every body, If your tired STOP.
Warm Regards Jim & Lambie

Now I am wondering if the truck had a steering wheel?
If yes, I am now wondering why he didn't turn it?
A bit of bush is a mutch better brake than a couple of caravans.
Am I right or wrong? as I wasn't there.
Hey Jim - wasn't actually us that saw the carnage (thanks be) - got the info from another forum, should have said that at the start - but just thought some members might be travelling in that area - hope all are safe and as well as can be.
Good to see you back on the forum Jim.

There was a picture of the dead couple in todays WA newspaper - youngish - maybe 30s - sounds like they had a great life and were a happy family until this tragedy.
I can imagine the driver of a cattle driver who ran into the rear of them is devastated as well.
Sad for all.............
