Queensland country fuel prices

Left Longreach today. When we arrived at Barcaldine we discovered petrol at the Choice outlet was 18 cents a litre less than at Longreach. We paid $1.55.9 a litres at Belyando Crossing; 20 cents more than at Clermont. It IS 176km from Clermont to the crossing and 200km further on to Charters Towers. Interestingly, a few kilometres after leaving Clermont there is a sign saying there is no fuel for 176km; then after leaving Belyando Crossing there is a sign saying no fuel for 200km. Would it not make more sense to have these signs on the approaches to these places rather than after them?

A local in Longreach told us the dinner river cruise was $99 for tourists and $70 for "locals". I cannot confirm the price difference, but just be aware.

No, particularly at Clermont. People stay there for a few days and forget the sign they passed as they arrive. It prompts more people if you have the sign when leaving a town.

It's a bit radical, I know but... how about two signs?

Indeed, why not two signs? More sense than one after leaving a place, notwithstanding the proposition people may forget the warning if staying in a place for more than a few hours.

More fuel prices. At Mitchell, Qld, the BP is sign posted 91 octane petrol $1.33.3 a litre. The Caltex has no price board but at the meter the price is $1.38. Reinforces the thought that if no price is shown for any commodity, it is probably too expensive at that sales point.

In Beerwah today diesel was a $1:20, went Caboolture between $1:22 to $1:27 down to Morayfield and the BP was $1:35 so go figure that out.

Diesel at Puma (southern) Townsville is $1.19 for "Truck Diesel", $1.21 for normal diesel. Belyando? Is always expensive BUT, they generate their own power, pump & treat their water, get their fuel from Townsville whereas fuel for Clermont comes from Rockhampton, Emerald, etc. We always stop for a drink, ice-cream just to support them for letting us use their toilets.

If you object to fuel prices in country areas, there are two solutions - either STAY HOME or on the coast! Remember Coles-Shell have jacked their prices up in the last few months for reasons unknown but you rarely find them in remote areas.

Warren-Pat got it right, if you cant handle the price fluctuations, stay home.

Oh, as a matter of interest, buying fuel (particularly diesel) from a hole in the wall at cheapest price will eventually end in tears.

Whinging won't help.wink
