We have had ours for almost 4 years now. Zero problems. Well not quite. Fitted an auxiliary transmission cooler to keep the auto temps in a safer zone, but that was my choice. Other than that completely trouble free 42k kilometers

Fuel economy is fantastic. We tow close to 3t of caravan and regularly see 13-14 l/100k on the trip computer, which is just about the same as the calculations at the bowser. blankstare

Thanks Graeme for your input from what i have found out with the new d'max they have just gone to a six speed gear box and they seem to have all the bells and whistles and the price is just to good to pass it by

The 6 speed came out last year as a upgrade, nothing is likely to change until they start making the Mazda BT50. Izusu might have slightly less Power & Torque but they have strong reliable engines.

Kebbin.

I think the BT50 labelled.
Will be just a straight D-Max with labels
and maybe different grill\bling.

Also, I think They basically ALL use same Transm with different labels.
Toyota. Isuzi, the lot. Aisin?.

That 6 cog has been around for a while.

Hi,

Have had two 5 speed manual Dmax dual cabs, 2009 and now 2012 new shape model both brought new. Nil issues with either.

I have a 21ft caravan and last month on a trip from Bunbury to Kalbarri and back we achieved 14.9 ltr per 100kms on the way and going home 15.6 ltr per 100kms(more head wind). The fuel figures are worked out from litres pumped into the car and mileage travelled, not cars computer read out.

I have a long range tank so only filled a couple of times.

I tend to travel anywhere from 90 kmph to about 105 kmph. I run in 4th gear mainly.....5th if dead level and no wind.

I find first gear too tall on some occasions ....I think I would go auto next time.

Overall very happy with my Isuzu utes.

Cheers AL

Thanks AL

it seems you have had a good run with the d'max i find looking at the new model they are built for working and not so much as a show pony and the price and warranty

is not to be overlooked either and that's what you want as they also use the same engine in there small npr trucks

Modern Auto's ARE better than manuals for towing.
Especially the larger rigs.

Only additives needed, really.
Are second Transm Oil cooler,(I use the round. solid walled\fin type.)

Plus some, (me personally) have a Torque Converter Lock up installed.
Lets you hold in ALL gears. Up and DOWN hill.

My sister and brother in-law are onto there second DMax and have not have any problem with either. We are looking at purchasing an MU-X this month. I just wish they hadn't added the diesel particulate filter with the new model.

Thanks everyone for your input. Regarding the diesel particulate filter Jeff the LSU model and the MUX have a level indicator on the dash telling you when it is going to do a burn.

ISUZU have been using this method for some time and are getting away from the AD BLUE treatment and it looks like what ever diesel we purchase we are stuck with it as australia

has gone to EURO 5 with there engines. I don't like the DPF as i am getting rid of my ford ranger after 9 yrs i have to follow the trend or just keep my old ranger and keep the maintenance

 up to it .

The question is will the 2017 Izuzu be as good as the previous models.

I don't own one, don't need one but have 3 friends driving them 2012/15/16 towing caravans and at the fuel pump they are in front, my ute gets me there quicker.

Our tyre wear is similar, serving cost something similar, one gets a family discount some what cheaper.

There brakes are lasting better at 80000ks X brand need some work, the Izuzu's will see better then 100 000ks.

3 out 4 have had new shocks fitted, x brand also.

Oldist 120 000ks, 65 000ks, 40 000ks

X brand 71 000ks.

Interesting.

Thanks for the info about the level indicator Phill. Yes, it would seem we are stuck with the DPF from now on. We could go an older model without the DPF but the extra torque and six speed auto attracts us to the new model. Happy travelling.

We are looking at buying a new Dmax as well.
Should we get the Tow Bar, Bull bar , side steps , camera at time of purchase or ,
Get separately?
Another thing how do we go Towing without a WDH?

DEAR KATH AND DAVE

I am going to get a d'max also it will be the LSU model it comes with side steps and rear camera and chrome grill and some extra nice bits it will be a two wheel drive not a 4wd.It still has a 3.5 ton towing and the price is about $41,000 drive away for a twin cab .As for the bull bar it is about $2200 for the steel and about $2700 for the polished aluminium i am getting the shiny one from isuzu .As for the tow bar i am going after market with HAYMEN REESE as it will handle the weight better and it also has a anti rattle bolt. Yes ISUZU does not recommend using a load distribution device for your caravan why i don't know but i am going to use one and i suspect many other's do to.

regards phill

Hi KathnDave,

The answer to your question is probably quite easy.....get a price from other accessory shops firstly, so when you go into Isuzu you know how much more or less it will cost for what you want to fit external to Isuzu.

I think it is easier to have it all fitted prior to pickup and maybe you can get a good deal if you include them at purchase time. You may find the camera as standard depending on which model you buy.

I did not fit the factory bull bar as I much preferred the look of Opposite Locks bar and it was cheaper as well at the time. Again personal choice but I go steel every time...an alloy bar is just somewhere to mount spotlights and an UHF antenna. No where near as strong as steel.

I did fit the factory towbar. I do use a WDH system.

I replaced the entire suspension as I wanted more ride height and better load carrying capability.....more than happy with my decision on that. I will add I have a canopy and long range fuel tank plus carry other odds n sods in the back. I am not an advocate of airbags on a leaf sprung vehicle hence deciding to change suspension.

Radar,

Agree with your comments as we travel with a couple who have the same tow tug as yourself and a similar sized caravan to ours .... we all get there at the same time but certainly the Nissan is a bit more powerful with the V6 diesel. We find generally about 2 ltrs per hundred difference in the Isuzu's favour......not much to worry about in the big picture though.

Phill,

Regarding your choice of not buying 4wd.....possibly it is worth re-visiting this decision as it is handy to have on occasion as well as a set of low range gears. Something as simple as getting off the road for a oncoming over width load if the verge is soft, 4wd can be invaluable. Some free camps can also be a bit dodgy at times and having 4wd can save the day or allow you to go more places. Resale on the 2wd versions is not as good either....if it looks like it should be a 4wd vehicle....
Anyway just a few of my own thoughts, good luck with your choice.

Cheers AL

Thank you big brother and sandgrooper1 for you replies. It is a minefield out there . Isuzu quoted $47,000 with all the above plus an Anderson plug . Long range fuel tank was an extra $1,650 . We were thinking of offering them $45 ,000 with long range fuel tank included. We still have to fit a Canopy. I am sure it was th SX Highride

Also we have a single axle  18'6 Leader Van total weight of 2230 loaded

Hi Kaid, we are not at sorry we had the dealer arrange the fitting of all the extras, we were under a bit of pressure to have the car ready to go by a certain date as it was we were almost ready to call our planned trip off.

Saying that and in hindsight, had we had the time over again I would spend a couple of days organising the fittments myself as I have had all my extras supplied by one company.

Aluminium bullbar, canopy, long range tank, snorkel. Most of the other odds and sods come off previous car, lights, andersen plug, 2nd battery equipment, electric brake controller.etc.

Nissan recommend when fitting steel bullbar or alum bullbar with winch the need for heavier rated front springs be fitted. Interesting will Izuzu say this.

Yes, I do agree to think hard about buying the front wheel drive, a very capable friend brought the 2 wheel drive model to save money but he has regrets, I have regrets about buying the 4wd model until I gonup some dirt road and find a beaut camp spot.

Arguments about steel or aluminium bulls bars will go on for ever, my choice was mainly to protect the front from the possibility of a roo or emu, in retirement we tend not to drive at sun up or sun down but the bar is handy to put our bath towels on and hold the useless driving lights, well we don't drive much at all after dark anymore.

I do love my long range fuel tank, it will take about 6 years to get our money back with fuel savings but having our fuel in the one spot is real good.

Hope this helps in some small way.

Thanks for that radar. We were not intending to get a winch compatible Tow bar.

Hubby is just concerned about the weight of all our add ons will reduce the towing capacity.

Bit more research to do yet. Hope to take advantage of the end of financial year sales
