Has anyone traveled the Black Stump road from Wellington through Gulgong, Leadville, Coolah to Gunnedah with a caravan? I will be driving from Cooma - Cowra - Wellington - Gunnedah - with destination Copeton Dam. Thank you

 Hi Quirky

Yes, we have several times over the last few years, never caused us a problem, it has the usual undulations with the occasional rough bit, all good.

Gunnedah to Copeton Dam there is a few different ways to go, main and most of the secondary roads up in area of NSW are sealed.

Heading via Tamworth and up the New England Highway has a few climbs nothing a that steep or worse then you have already experienced.

Via Manilla, Bingara, Warialda is fairly easy with lots of good camping.

Up on the New England it is getting colder with some temps overnight below the 10 mark, good showground camping in most of the towns.

Hope tis is of some help.

See this map. I would not be too fussy about going to Leadville via Elong Elong, there is formed gravel along this route. I would take the route through Goolma/Gulgong. I believe the Black Stump WAY is fully sealed.

Thank you Radar and PeterD. I shall take you up on your suggestion. My first stop will be Cowra Showgrounds, then via Wellington and the route suggested by you to Gunnedah, showground. As I am meeting up with a couple on the westerly fringes of Copeton Dam it will be Tamworth, New England Hwy. My first big Not-so-Grey Nomad trip since I bought my Vanguard last year February in Wangaratta. How exciting can life beğ

 Hey Gitta

Enjoy your travels, enjoy the scenery, stop if it all gets to much and have a cuppa and smell the roses.

Having the time is a great experience.

Up in that area of New England - Don't attempt the direct road from Bendemeer to Manila via Watsons Creek - There is a spur road there (Through a property named ""Bungendore") It would break a snakes back. A three point turn is required (no safety fences) half way down the "Hill".

One place that is a must visit near Chaffey Dam "Woolomin" is a small settlement on the bank of the Peel River, about 20 km north of Nundle, New South Wales, Australia and about 40 km south east of the city of Tamworth. It is on the Fossickers Way near Chaffey Dam. There is a FREE camping ground with water on tap, very clean flushing toilets, there are several powered sites ($4.00 night from general store). Great little village with very friendly general store less than 100 meteres. Unhitch and explore the New England region - we only spent a week there, but met couple that were there 12 weeks. small river/creek with swimming hole.
