Peter we will have disagree here an unsupported tyre carrying full load instantly grinding itself to threads has to be in a lot worse shape then a supported wheel ,even though the supported tyre will be eventually destroyed.I personally would feel a lot safer dragging something that had some support for many kilometres down the road,then a van riding on its rim from the start...
