I was interested to read Kiwijims response to that bloke's Lotto win, and couldn't agree more with his response to what he would do if he won...
'Get new 4 x 4 and Caravan & be on the road full time to see every corner of this Great Country'......
Many full timers will attest to just how big our Country really is...here are some interesting facts you may not have thought about........tell me if they are incorrect as some invariably do....
1. A spot on the Gunbarrel Highway where the sign states 493kms to Warburton/724 kms to Giles and 1,533 kms to Alice Springs...that spot is closer to 'Space' than the nearest Town.
2. The 14,500km Highway 1 is the World's longest National Highway...if you spent 10 hours/Day doing 100 kph it would take 2 weeks to circumnavigate Australia...albeit you would not see/take in a lot....lol...
3. Australia's largest Electoral District 'Durack' @1,587,758 Sq. Kms is larger in area than France, Germany and Spain combined.
4. Australia has 10,685 officially named Beaches...you could visit a new Beach every day for more than 29 years...I suspect Jules and Billleeeee have been to most of them by now...?
5. Anna Creek Station @ 24,000 Sq Kms is larger than Israel.
6. The 5,500 Km Dingo Fence is the longest fence on Earth....
7. 24 rabbits were introduced to Australia in 1859 and with their prolific breeding cycle, there were 10 billion in less than 70 years.....I suggest that trend is continuing today in one form or another....it's interesting no rabbits ever swam or stowed away to Kangaroo Island and its unusual to see grass growing right up to dam edges there unlike mainland Australia..e.g. Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas where they are still prolific...
Australia...the Greatest Country on Earth....lets keep it that way....Australia is about the only Country on Earth that if a wall was built round us tomorrow we could be totally self-sufficient in all things and supply/feed our own people...
Hoo Roo.

According to AEC website Durack is 1,629,858 sq km, but hey what's 42,100 sq km in the scheme of things..... Great List

Anna Creek Station, the largest pastoral lease in Australia. At around 24,000 square km, the property is so big, it can be suffering drought on one side, while experiencing torrential rain on the other. So big, that it takes more than a week to cross by horse.Formerly part of Sir Sidney Kidmans empire, was part of a chain from the Gulf of Carpentaria through to South Australia bought up or leased by Kidman to move his cattle around during times of famine or feast..

DUNMOWIN is no longer on the road and still DUNMOWIN!
On a plane trip once coming home from South Korea & seated next to a South Korean. When I said I was from Australia he said it's the best country on earth. His reasons:- No international borders, no passport required to travel, can travel & cover every geographical feature (snow, desert, surf, mountains, big cities, small towns etc) easily. Total opposite to South Korea. All the sort of things I'd taken for granted. And (as someone noted above), Australia really is self sufficient if needed.

While travelling in the USA a few years ago I used the following comparison ----- my home state of Tasmania is larger than the any of the ten smallest states in the USA.
