First I have to say that we are not pet owners nor do we normally have an opinion one way or the other on travelling with them. We just stayed at the Riverside CP in Mudgee where every second camper seemed to have a dog from an Irish Wolf Hound all the way down to little yap yaps, we never heard one bark the whole week that we were there. The dogs were always walked with a leash and didn't bother anyone - how is it that these dogs can behave so well when compared to the dogs that live in suburbia is it because of the extra care and attention that they receive on the road ?
Dogs adapt to the travelling lifestyle very quickly and because they are up close and personal to so many various people and other dogs they are very well socialised also they don't have their "own territory" as in suburbia with the exception of the area in the immediate vicinity of the caravan / motorhome. I recently stayed at a caravan park in a town which was conducting a Dog Show that weekend attracting 500 dogs, there were in excess of 50 dogs at the C/P and seldom heard a fuss from any of them. Disciplined owners own disciplined dogs no matter where the location. Easy really!
I think most owners take a bit of extra care with their pets on a trip as
1) they often have more time to give them
2) they know that others do not want to be disturbed, and that if they do create a problem the park may cease allowing pets, so they ensure that they do not contribute to parks ceasing to allow pets.
3) The pets are often better behaved as they have more to do and see while away.
