Cable Reel Obsession....

Long story short, I sold my solar panel cleaning business in August 2016

Anyway, I had a void in my life that needed filling and one day I got hold of an old Cable Reel

One thing led to another and I found I had a knack for up-cycling these tired old things....

Now I do them up, sell them and if funds my ongoing obsession...

If anyone is in the Townsville area and wants one or would like one done in a particular way, drop me a message and I can certainly do something for you...

Noice.
Do you have to punch nails or are they nail gun jobbies and in deep enough anyway?

It depends on which side of the disc I am using if it's for a cafe/dining table.... usually I use the inner side as this is the side that the nails are punched in...

The pressure used in the nailing seems to punch the nails about 3 - 4 mm below the surface, so it is just a case of a straight sand with the belt sander to start with...

If the outer face is use, I generally punch any nasty nails, however I use a heavy grit ( 40 or 80) to start and ensure that I sand down the protruding nails to a flat state..

This also gives a nice finish when they are stained or varnished....

Another trick is to hit the cable reel with a karcher prior to starting on them.... this will clean off the majority of paint from the surface (less sanding).... and also gets rid of any little

stones etc from the edges, these stones are notorious for ripping apart the sanding belts and pads....

Once I have sanded down with the heavy grit, I use a 120 grit to smooth off before I stain/varnish.... and then a 180 - 240grit in between coats...

To make a long story even longer Brett, now that you have sold your solar panel cleaning business
Exactly how did you clean the solar panels

I am sure that many of us would appreciate an expert, explaining in detail, how to clean our solar panels

Cleaning them is quite simple... we used a filtered water system, this removes all chemicals, minerals etc from the water.

I will post the easiest way for everyone to clean their panels in the Solar Panel section of the forum shortly...
