Health Insurance/ Price rise 1.4.17

We have just switched from Bupa to DEFENCE HEALTH.

In doing so we have save $900 on yearly premium.

Now if you or any of your extended family have at some stage serviced in the Navy, Army or Airforce  you are entitled to join the DEFENCE HEALTH Insurance.

It is a NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION.
I did my National Service back in 1959 and I qualified. Plus my family also qualify on my National Service record.

Also if you or any member of you family service in regular Armed Service. You qualify.I have no interest in the Defence Health except to share this concept with you.

Save yourself a bucket load of $$$ and give them a call, or just google Defence Health.

This is just a community service info that I am offering it is now up to you.

There are quite a few "not for profit" health funds out there including HBF surprisingly. We're currently with CUA but after the price rise on 01 April we will be paying $215.92 a fortnight for top cover etc.eyepopping.gif.  We made some tentative moves to investigate cheaper alternatives through health fund comparison sites but found they were just after a commission and kept ringing/hassling us.  Trouble is that the older you get the more you are scared to drop cover.

Good Luck.

We have been a member of Defence Health for 20 years Generally they pay out a bit more on claims than the big funds. If you pay the annual fee before the end of march you save the price rise for a year. I think this is the same for all funds.

I did a check last night on the Defence health website , It was $167 cheaper a year so better to stay with the one you know I think .

Just did a quote for the Defence health mob and the top cover "Premier Hospital and Premier Extras" is $202.25 so a saving of about $13 a fortnight or $350 per year....so I'm a bit like brickies and it's a toss-up whether to change.
Despite maximum cover it still costs big dollars if you have an operation.

Good Luck.

Hako we droped our extra cover and only have Hospital cover , Has we work out what we were claiming for from extra for the last 3 years and what the cost of premiers good exercise . My son father inlaw is in full cover and had a opp and was left with out of pocket of $7500 . Some people may be able to find the money for health insurance but not able to find the extra out of pocket when the time might come .

We are in HCI (Health Care Insurance) a Timber Industry fund, price rise this year 6.06%. Full premium hospital and extras still cheaper than most. Have never paid any out of pocket for ops etc. Full ambulance Aust wide covered. Works for us.

Apparently there is currently a senate enquiry into health funds - found this snippet on ABC news:

A Senate inquiry into the sector is underway, but so far private health CEOs some who earn more than $13 million a year have declined an invitation to attend.

Hmm...........

Defence Health are great. I know it sounds wrong, but Defence Health looked after us for nearly five years while my wife battled cancer. They never quibbled any claim and sorted things out over the phone, even contacting service providers on my behalf if there was a problem. My wife past away in June last year and I can't fault the compassion that was given to me by Defence Health.
If you have worked any where in the defence industry, you can join. I worked for 35 odd years testing for defence as a defence public servant.
My wife accrued private hospital expenses over the five years over $500,000, the extras we paid were for the people who knocked you out and the people who read xrays etc. That probably equated to $5000 to $7000 dollars!
I am staying with them!

Di just changed us from a mix of BUPA and HCF.
FULL cover for her with full extra's.
Upgrade to same for me. for same costs as BUPA charges now.
With NO 250 excess.
Which is a bummer as I just paid it for my Pain management surgery.

BUT. I believe Westfund is QLD only. Could be wrong.

Girl in Medicare told us about this when We in there. (shhh She changed).
