Firstly wanted to ask everyone if stone guards for the windscreen are legal these days ? thinking about getting one for my small campervan ... anyone out there that can help ? Don't see many vehicles fitted with them !
They had a discussion on stone guards on "the other forum" ....it was headed "wire mesh stone guard windshield protector".
Basically it said they may or may not be legal but no one had ever been booked and gave some addresses where they were still manufactured and the prices.
but I nor any I know have used for yrs.
Windscreens are sooo much better quality nowadays.
It take a heck of a lot to actually "break" one. Normally just chipping occurs,
and you can change at next metro area of any size.
Maybe Weipa and old gibber roads but not Bitumin and normal dirt.
Fergit the screen. Just have good ins.
Mine covers one a yr free. then $100 each after that.
Used to be ALL free
But no more.
And God. They look ugly too.
I also carry a fold up plastic emergency screen too.
But never used it.

Psychcological mainly methink's.
Agree.
The last screen that I damaged was in a bridge bypass thru a creek bed just west of Camooweal. I pulled to the side & stopped to let a road train past. He threw up a couple of massive river stones that landed on the bottom of the screen. Left a couple of great big chips. The didn't start to run into cracks until several months later.
Prior to that the only one I can remember was decades earlier when I copped a rock in the half screen of my old Vanguard near Bowenville. No probs. It was great to have an unobstructed shooting platform across the bonnet .. with no windscreen. A bit blowy though with lots of bugs.
