Hogs breath Food !!!

We went to a Hogs breath Restaurant last night to celebrate our Sons Birthday,

I couldn't believe the way the meal was served up, and the quality of the food was pathetic to say the least. !!

First off, the meal ( fish & chips ) was served up on a chopping board, "Yep" they can't afford a plate any longer,

As for the meal it's self " YUCK "  the fish still had the skin on ( 4 skinny fingers in total ) and the chips left a hell of a lot to be desired, they consisted of about a hand full of dried out curled french fries full of black eyes,

That was it,  no salads or anything else ,  at a cost of almost $ 30.00 it will be a long long time before we go there again.

It was pretty obvious, there were new managers in charge, and they were making a bad job of it,

we should have realised that something wasn't right with the place as it was usually packed out on a Sunday night,

but last night there was many empty seats.

Like so many other places we have been to in the past, they start off very good , but as time goes by and new People take over,

the service seems to deteriorate,

Our local Fush & Chup shop serves a far better feed, and a lot cheaper, so that will do us in the future. !!!

Well it's a franchise business and they have fixed menu's which are generally boring and mass produced...personally, I never frequent them, including Macca's & kFC, they are all 3rd rate imho.

Hi all;

The wife and myself have also had the un pleasant job of been taken out for a meal at Hogs breath franchise in Mildura. NEVER again, First off the place stunk of the smell of over cooked rancid meat and this smell would  put's you of in the first place. The food was very poor and for what it cost for the the meal ( if you could call the muck that was served up , food ) and there was 6 adults at our table, we would have had better food and quicker service at one of the other fast food outlets ( Mc M ,KFC even HJ's . Not cheap for our part of the bill it worked out at just on $85.00 for two people.

Never ever and as long as my back passage points to the ground, I will never step into Hogs Breath again. IN my opinion 'One to stay away from'.

Tried Hogs Breath Mildura once on a visit, first and last time, as V81 says, expensive poor quality food, very average service.no

I have only been to HG once and that was too many.

KJ, a good feed of fush and chups is all that is needed. A nice piece of freshly cooked Barracouta with crispy chups and some lime juice dribbled over all. That said, it is hard to find a good F&C shop though. I have found lately that Asians/Chinese seem to do a good job and some have a bit of Asian/Chinese food available as well, good warmed up for the next night.

We had the most sensational take away meal last week at The Heart Of The Coorong Roadhouse in tiny Salt Creek SA. The Coorong is famous for its Mullet, we had a Mullet Burger & Chips.

Burger consisted of a light crispy bun, fresh salad, two sumptuous fillets of fish & tartare sauce. Chips were chunky, light & fluffy. YUMMO!

We went to Hogs Breath once, never again!

Sorry to hear your son's birthday was such a disaster KJ I would be giving them the feedback they deserve. We have been to a number of Hogs Breath Cafes over the years mainly when travelling because you could just walk in and get a table - Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast and Hobart can't say we have ever had as bad an experience as what people are saying here. Having said that they are only franchises and no doubt the quality and service will vary with the management of the place. Restaurant chains such as Hogs Breath, Sizzler, Lone Star etc. were at their peak maybe 10 years ago nowadays most of the pubs and clubs have renovated their facilities to be more family friendly, have upped the quality of their meals and are open 7 days a week (in NSW anyway) and for us they now offer a far better alternative.

As a matter of a fact, NO I didn't pay a thing, just walked straight the door in disgust,
I heard later that our Son-in-law settled the bill, just to keep the peace,
But only after getting a good sized discount for the very poor meal, and only making very loud noises about his Steak, which had been ordered well done, but turned up with blood running out of it,
As many have already said here,  NEVER AGAIN

I agree with what you have said, we to have had the same experience at HB. Being in the industry I am one up on them when I place my order and their face back at me is priceless.  The first thing I say is I would like the meals served onto a plate, never do I mention the wooden board as the waiter will assume you want the meal on a wooden board as thats all he/she will hear lol. They have made the word "rustic" very fashionalbe now by saying they like the wooden board as it lends to a rustic appearance lol.

We avoid Lone Star rib house in ****burn, ribs were nothing more than boiled then served with a sauce that was so slopped over them it was disgusting, those ribs did not even see a grill at all. The garlic prawns did not have even a hint of garlic, just tiny prawns floating in a bowl of melted butter with a few sprinkles of parsley on top, the garlic bread had no garlic, instead it was soaked with melted butter and parsley, garlic bread suppose to have a nice crusty crunch. The Baked potato was barely luke warm, lettuce in the salad had seen better days with some leaves with a tinge of brown and even yellow on them with some leaves slimy in texture. My steak was nothing more than dried out leather, not bad considering I ordered med rare. Lemon lime and bitters drink was terrible, barely a hint of bitters.  I asked to see the chef, he refused to come out.  The bill for this total disaster was $132, they offered us a voucher for 2 free drinks lol, I smiled and said, thank you but it would not pay me to drive all the way for that, so you can use the voucher on my behalf,  I always try to remain polite, I think they learn more from that than anything. No more Lone star for us, I'm so glad my daughter and I tried this before having a gathering there, thats why we went there in the first place to check it out. So for us its down with Hogs Breath and Lone Star....Kisha

Agree.  In the rare occasion that we have eaten there the food was terrible.

I prefer the immense range of Asian restaurants in our local area.

Have probably had 4 meals in HB in the last 20 years and several have been a complete disaster and 2 you could get a better meal at the local club for half the price.

Only been there once, about twelve years ago, in my home town

The food did come out on plates, perhaps the boards came later on

I am just a plain food eater, but the steak and chips were not much good

I do remember the strong cooking smell, I assumed that the fan over the cooker was not working

I have no future plans to go again, but I do not condemn them, as I know that some people can eat anything

The slow cooked steaks are great, the only reason to go to Hogs. Fish and chips are better wrapped an eaten by the ocean.b

Never been to Hoggs but I tried Sizzlers once

In 1994 When My wife was confined to a wheelchair we came back to Townsville to visit my family and look at moving back to provide a better quality of life for my wife. My family of about eight took us to Sizzlers for dinner and we were at the front of the line. My wife could only eat small meals and loved chicken nuggets or fish pieces with a few chips. When I ordered I informed the waitress that my wife would like the small childrens serve of nuggets and chips but I will pay for two adults meals so she can have dessert.

I was told that I would have to order two adult meals and if I wanted to order a Childs meal that would be extra. I politely asked to see the manager as this was ridiculous and was informed by him that they had strict rules and the waitress was correct. My wife was getting upset with the treatment so we decided to leave. The whole family turned around to leave but there was about twenty people lined up behind them.

The Manager tried to get us to leave via another exit but we refused until everybody had exited to allow us through. Customers were asking what was happening and when informed some of them left also. We went and bought fish, chips good old sars, lemonade, chocolate ice cream and went home and had a lovely meal.

Have never been back to sizzlers nor have I ever recommended them

You all get what you pay for!!!

I had breakfast in Darwin last week, scammbled eggs, bacon and tomato with a coffee $26.00.  It was presented great and tasted even better.

The people who have bought into these franchises can't even make a $ with good food, wages, superannuation, rent, power, rates etc. etc. so they have to serve bad, cheap food.

I never said they are 'cheap'  I said they sell cheap food (not the best quality).

The last time my wife and I "dined" at Hogs breath, if you wanted sauce it was extra if you wanted sides they were extra and I wondered if they were going to hit us up for the plates. When I went to the cashier to settle the account after we had finished our meal I queried if the amount was correct as it seemed unusually "light". I was assured all was ok but when we were walking out we were pulled up and told abruptly " you have not paid for the other meal!!! being my wifes!!! They ran a separate tab for her meal!!! NEVER EVER again. Overpriced and way under serviced.

Well maybe I am lucky, not asking for a plate then, ??

It does make me wonder how hygienic it is to serve food on a wooden chopping board, even with a bit of advertising plastic over it ???

I am shocked when I Googled......" Hogs breath food poisoning",  Just have a read of this lot......

https://www.google.com.au/search?espv=2&q=hogs+breath+food+poisoning&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjAqeTYy9fSAhVHgbwKHevTC_EQvwUIGCgA

We used to go to Sizzlers quiet often, but they have jacked up their prices that much, we no longer go there as their meals were getting smaller and smaller,

Another thing that someone has already mentioned, is the smell emitting from the kitchen, it really turns you off the food,

When I went to get some soup, only dregs left, the lettuce looked a week old, and the so-called Prawn salad was minus the Prawns ,

The only place that I know of in Perth, that hasn't increased it's prices over a numbers years and still gives you a plate to fill up your self,

( as much as you want ) for a set price, is the Chinese shop at E Shed on the Freo wharf, always fresh and a good meal.
