Yep all those things. It would be annoying, uncomfortable and unhygienic. I have never noticed that problem with mine. I was wondering if perhaps it splashing from the flush.

We have lived in our van for almost six years now, and had not had the issue. So, obviously something is different.

We have a thetford cassette toilet that is plumbed into the caravan. Therefore, no flush water tank. Most caravan toilets are plumbed into the caravan. What do you have? You mention the word 'camping' which indicates you might have a portapotti. Not that it helps, but I have never heard of this issue in caravan.

Keep the thread alive, we will see if we can work it out.

Just as a matter of curiosity Dumowin, where does the flush water come from in your van? From the main water tank? Most Thetfords have a tank that you need to fill. Just wondering.

You don't say if your Thetford is outside overnight or inside. I suspect outside as you mention it is dark. Is is like dew? Perhaps a cover might help. If it is inside, maybe the area needs more ventilation.

condensate is forming because of a temperature difference and moist air.
You could put a "doilly" over the seat or leave the seat up (sorry mrs) so its not in the airflow.
Keeping the toilet door shut might help if the room is sealed up well but prolly not much.

I too have a built in Thetford loo, Mel and water comes from vans fresh water tanks.

Hello ebbhsnson, firstly a very warm welcome. We had water on seat n found it was water spraying when flushing. the water pressure Being too high. We turned down the water pressure from the tap outside n no more worries. Happy travels

Check to see if there is any liquid in the wells underneath the cassette due to leakage as this may cause condensation as it is not sealed.

Also never had condensation on the seat on portable or fixed Thetford.
I would think most likely it is the flush water. Maybe flushing when the lid is down and water pressure too high or spout pointing up.

We have the same problem. I believe it is the small amount of moisture that is left after flushing and closing the trap door, which evaporates when the lid is down. I just leave the lid up and no problems. Not funny when you rush in there in the middle of the night and hubby has put the lid down like all good hubbies lol.

If you've ever visited a common, basic long drop dunny with a lid on it in at any campground, early in the morning before everyone has got out of bed, you'll find condensation
under the lid & on the seat. The ambient temperature (night air) is less than the temperature generated by the poo in the pit. The same goes for cassettes. Simple really. Wipe your seat & hey presto, stay seated throughout the whole performance.

G;day MSG, yes our thetford is plumbed into the "mains water" of our caravan. Only have to push "flush" button, we don't have to top up or add extra chemicals etc. I think most caravan these days with toilet already built in have one like this.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am Male in a van with a flush system that is filled from outside the van in it's own reservoir. There seems to be 3 manual switch locations on the base of the toilet just under the seat, 1 open, 2 closed but not fully and 3 closed tight. I was using the 3 option because after I flush and close fully, I thought that the condensation was to be blamed from the flush water that didn't make it into the holding tank? Then I tried 2 and the same condensation happens? I am reluctant to use any paper as I only do Wees in the toilet and like to keep the emptying process simple.

sounds like many cases of sweaty butts - sorry - couldn't resist that.

We have a standard type Thetford where the water comes from our fresh water tanks or mains water supply (if connected by hose). Slide out cassette. Never had a problem other than someone else (who could that be) sometimes bumping the seat cover and it coming down with a crash - awakening me from my sweet dreams lol

Nothing unhygienic about it other than a wet bum. It is simply the evaporation of water from the urine.... smile

The solution may be to just leave the toilet seat up and the window open...or flush it.

Thanks for your help guys and dolls. I have found that as Kantiki said, Leave the toilet seat up1 I don't know how this will go with the BOSS when we travel together? Wish me luck.
