First trip preparation #4 - Road side assistance

Last one for now... I have just read a thread about caravan insurance and I agree with the sentiments expressed about shopping around but also taking a close examination of the fine print. I have a number of classic cars and race cars, all of which are now for sale but all were insured by Shannons - I have a long term relationship with them. Maybe I'll start with them and then work outwards....

In NSW we have NRMA Road side assistance and no doubt there are similar organisations elsewhere. Can you get road side assistance for this kind of trip - and if I arrange it with NRMA, am I covered if I need assistance in WA or do I have to purchase cover in each state??

Is it worth the effort??

Thank you

Brian

Brian, imho if you breakdown etc and need it, it will always have been worth it.

Cheers, John.

During the 18 years when we covered >200,000 km we had no roadside assistanc & fortunately never needed it.

Now that the Patrol, Van & I are getting old, we have taken out RACQ Ultimate Cover at $249 per year. I hope that we never use it, but it makes us feel better.  This policy covers both the Patrol & Van in the case of breakdown Australia wide.  Each State equivalent group has a similar product.

edit .. Sorry re read you post...   RACQ like the others, have reciprocal arrangements giving Aus wide cover.  RACQ gave us maps showing coverage areas.

I have been in the NRMA for more than 40 years and have had to use their roadside assist on a number of occasions, once when we were stranded in the back blocks of Queensland the RACQ came to our rescue. Please check with the NRMA but I believe that the equivalent motoring organisations in all states have an agreement to look after each others members.

yes - all the roadside assist services have reciprocal agreements with their interstate counter-parts. We have used them in different states at no additional cost to the original membership. Some levels of cover do not include van towing though.
