We are camped just 5 kms south of Margaret River. No water here. Dump point in town with no potable water. Have asked at info centre where we can access potable water. No joy other than to stay at a caravan park. Can someone help. Thanks
Their in drought down there, possibly the Information centre is right.
Maybe too many, asking for everything free, all the time.
Garages possible when you buy fuel is an another option.

Wikicamps has a dump point shown at MR Shire Depot off Wallcliffe Rd. There is a Recreational Centre just west of there (51 Walcliffe Rd) which has water!

Thanks Treecrest. We enquired at the Rec Center and the lady there did not know where we could get water. Still waiting for someone at the shire to call me re. water.
Mark up river is one of the biggest rip off places i have ever been to and i am 6th generation west australian even most of the wine from the region is grossly over rated and very much over priced

I have to agree with you boab,
We went on a wine tour of the area some years back, tried many free samples and found a few that were reasonably, but were shocked at the door prices they were charging,
On returning to Perth, I called into Dan Murphy's and found the same wine for sale there at 1/4 the price !!!

What's wrong with actually buying some water from supermarket? If that is no good, move on.
The drought is there, no need to be smart about it
Lots of people suffering, with the lack of water.
Doesn't take much observation or talking to the locals to get that information.
Also Margaret River has some fantastic Wineries and wines.
Comments against an area because they wont give you free water or cheaper wines.
Seems like a trend here.
We paid for our Caravan Park, supported a few wineries and had our shipped to the East Coast.
Also supported the Chocolate Factory (Gabriels), Venison Farm, Cheese Factory, Nougat and Fudge Factory.
Stop demanding that everything be supplied for nothing or at your perceived cost.
Wont endear you to those small businesses trying to survive.

Not sure where you get your info from mylestom but there is no drought and if there is no potable water in the town that is pretty poor i dont know of any other place in the south west that dosent supply water and its not commonly known as markup river for no reason your better off going down to Augusta
Ok everyone. Thanks for your input. We have found potable water in the vicinity of the dump point. Not an RV friendly town if looking for potable water is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Went to Dunsborough today and not only a number of places with accessible water they also have 240v. Power outlets available for public use. What a difference. No drought there either.
Hi Rongela, Glad to hear you found a solution. All in all the south west of WA is quite nice (as far as scenery goes). Problem is it has developed a little above it's station (so to speak) in terms of how it perceives itself as an exclusive "wine and food "area. It has been my experience that profit comes ahead of everything (as Kiwijim stated quite correctly about inflated wine prices), so not to be able to get some water is very typical of the local attitude. As for supporting this area, believe me, there are many (and I mean many "hobbyist's" that open an "exclusive winery" and then expect the "punters" to support there lifestyle). And no, I do not believe there is any drought in the area. Sorry someone suggested "just go buy bottled water" I considered that a very unhelpful statement, but there you go, some people are like that.
I also have a theory about the SW peoples attitudes. They don't get a lot of sun all year round so as a result they lack a little in vitamin D. I have observed that as you progress north in WA the towns and there people become more and more friendly (as result of more sunshine as you go). Well that' my take on it :)
Please continue to enjoy your SW experiences and above all, travel safe.
