Generator compartment

Whilst our caravan was in storage for 12 months we bought a 3.5 kw generator.  Now have the van home and the generator doesn't fit in the van's generator compartment.  Misses by about 30mm.  We've now sold the generator and looking at buying something that fits but can't seem to find a generator that will fit into the compartment.  Anyone else with this problem?

Di

Why not build yourself a box for the Generator, something like I made for our 4 KVA gennie.............

Made it out of scrap aluminum and welded a steel frame onto the rear bumper.

Thanks Kiwijims but the horse has already bolted and we have sold the generator that didn't fit. We had considered this option but hubby not keen, would prefer to use the generator compartment. Guess it's just going to be a matter of trying to find one that fits.

Di, I went the other way and made the box fit the generator.

Cheers, John.

Would be handy to know what the dimensions of the compartment are, so we can make more informed suggestions. Also, do you need a 3.5kW unit or will one with a lower output (and theoretically smaller in size) be sufficient for your needs?

Yes dimensionswould be good then maybe each member can measure their genset and if within your requirements list the brand and size and where they bought it from.

Thanks for your reply John. It won't fit in the tug with the shelving.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone but it looks like we've found a generator that will fit in the compartment.  Happy camper :)
