New smoke alarm

Was in the bulk warehouse yesterday and wandered past the fire alarms, as the van needed a new one I started to have a look. Wanted something which was not bulky and photo elec one caught my eye as it had a 10 year lithium battery sealed inside.

installed it in the van and certainly is not very big. Took a comparison photo against the usual 9 v battery used in smoke alarms

Given the size and fixed battery, do you need to replace it if it goes off? I would imaging that an active alarm would use up a reasonable amount of the available power.
