I know the Eyre Peninsula water is a little suspect, but are we unwise to attach the Streaky Bay town water to our caravan, considering the water heater, toilet etc.
You will have no issue with using it in the van, your appliances, or drinking it.
We use spring water throughout Australia for drinking, but only so we are not constantly changing water as we travel. That is our preference but not due to any preconceived ideas about quality.
Keith obviously tastes some funny things if he compares the water in SA to what he has. It is no worse than a majority of Australia.

Hi John,
I agree with Ian total, Streaky Bay is in no way connected to Adelaide's water. We have friends who live there, and we stay there for weeks at a time.

You're not wrong there. I distill all drinking water. It's criminal what they do to town water.
I double filter all water into the van down to 1 Mircron and have never had a problem with appliances. I clean my washing machine once every 3 months or so with citric acid. Streaky bay is fine from memory and I'll certainly be using it when I hit there shortly. As I don't drink it - well what comes out of my distiller is a constant, I can't say what it tastes like if you were to drink it.
Adelaide water has always crap (Im a South Australian so I should know). We drink water out of the Murray, after Qld, NSW via the Darling, and Victorians have peed and dumped their rubbish in it. I wont touch the stuff, so full of chemicals etc.
We buy the spring water in plastic bottles (10L) and drink tank water.
Sorry to tell you all that most SA water is rubbish, and has been for a very long time.
Cheers

Perhaps we are fortunate in that we usually have no trouble drinking whatever water we encounter. In Australia that is.
We have a bit of a giggle when we see the Asian students with their shopping trollies at our local supermarket, loaded with bottles of water (& spam & noodles too). Though we buy water when travelling in Asia & Europe. A few of our practices may seem funny to them. It annoys SWMBO when I tell them that our tap water is OK to drink.
I think that our water is 'safe', if not nice tasting to some.
BTW I have an 'on tap' filter in our van. Probably doesn't do much though. I also carry a back up 4l bottle of our local water just in case we run into unpalitable water. We mostly use it to 'flush' the loo if we pull up for morning tea or lunch & as usual there is no water in our tanks.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought last year we were able to use it in the van at Streaky, but this year the staff at the park said not to.
I will filter it first, and watch the anode in the suburban, so expect to be OK.
Also going to Venus Bay. This is a different story, so I'm not thinking of running it through the HW system. Anyway, their pressure will not get through the pressure regulator on the van.
What I have done is run a parallel system which will feed water to the sink, toilet and washing machine. A switch and electric ball valve controls which supply the water comes from with one way valves to make sure their is no cross contamination.
So far the tests at home show it works. I also have a tap on the HW line to the sink which restricts the mixer to cold only if necessary.
Hello John,'i lived at Ceduna in the 70-80s. Our mains water came from the Todd Reservoir at Port Lincoln & it was supplemented with a good bore at Polda.
It was very calcium rich - especially if you washed a dark coloured car in it. Most of us drank rain water.
Am not certain if Streaky Bay's water came from the same source as the main pipeline came up the centre of Eyre Peninsula or whether it came from another bore.
In summer it was difficult to have a cold shower - you had to be quick & turn on the hot tap to get a bit of cold water! I guess the pipeline is a solar hot water service!

Hi Warren,
Thanks for the insight. From SA Water it seems 25% of streaky Bay water comes from the Murray River. It starts in the Morgan Whyalla pipeline, and ends up in the Tod Ceduna pipeline. From what I have learned here, It's alright to use Streaky Bay water, except for drinking. Last year my wife was unwell and the chemist told her to only drink bottled water. That fixed her problem. We will do the same this year.
Venus Bay is as you described Ceduna. Water is full of calcium. They supply tank water for drinking. Wouldn't wash the car with it to save the paintwork. Elliston is similar I think.
Cheers
John
Streaky Bay water is fine, but then where ever we go we use a filter first before the water goes into the tank or into the van. Water from any 'new' source can affect people simply because it is different.
I would have bagged Adelaide water too a few years ago. Now it is fine. We had a filter fitted when we first moved into our house but now drinking the water straight from the tap is absolutely fine. Obviously the people making the comments haven't been in Adelaide for some time.
