Heavy rainfall, large hailstones lash south-east after BOM issues warning.
As of 5:30pm (AEST) more than 10,000 homes had lost power, Energex said.
The State Emergency Service was responding to more than 100 calls for help, mostly for leaky roofs and fallen trees.
Queensland Police reported on Twitter that trees and power lines were down on Simpsons Road at Bardon, and a tree was on the road at Gympie Road at Chermside.
Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) senior forecaster Michelle Berry said there were wind gusts of more than 100 kilometres per hour at Ipswich and in Brisbane's western suburbs.
"There may have been some wind gusts possibly even over 125 kilometres per hour," she said.
"We wouldn't be surprised if there were some wind gusts up to 140 kilometres per hour.
"It was quite a significant storm that went through Ipswich and just given the reports we had through the Ipswich region, it is likely there was some quite significant wind gusts through that zone."
"Ah Queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next"

From Coast to Coast, We'll see it all.......One Day
We had rain, big hailstones, and thunder, here in Boonah - 40k SW of Ipswich - the Coles store in Ipswich (which was devastated by the 2011 floods) has had water in the store this afternoon, the carpark is under water, and Brisbane Street was also flooded.
AND THEN, AND THEN - THE SUN CAME OUT!!!!!!

We were visiting our Son when the warnings kept coming thru & no undercover parking available for our Mazda3. Wouldn't have worried about the iron clad Patrol.
So we cut our visit short & raced back home thru a bit of a sprinkle & closed the windows on the van.
Then as usual, the storms veered north & left us with nothing but a bit of wind. Not enough water to run into the tanks.
The weather up there has changed quite a lot from what it was back in the 70's & 80's, we can't understand why everyone heads up there in the cooler months.
We enjoy the peace, tranquility & fine sunny days of winter on the Murray River in the Riverland or Sunraysia areas.
Check the weather map & it's always raining somewhere along the QLD coast virtually every day.
ps. We did QLD many times years ago when it wasn't so crowded & it cost nothing to stay in National Parks like Carnarvon Gorge, Bunya Mountains & Lamington etc.

Only problem there is.
You got the headline and location wrong.
They not Queensland down there, just the Suburbs of NSW.
And long may they reign.
Queensland starts, really. anywhere North of Gladdy.
Bundy at a pinch. Depending on what you drink hey.
Up here. We have "the Wet". and "The Dry".
2 seasons. and a proper time clock.
Plus sandals. Shorts, and t Shirt\Skivvy. ALL yr round.
The weather really is changing too, we used to go for up to 8 months most yrs
with NO rain. NOT a drop. Black grass everywhere. Then it rained.
and was green everywhere.
Most we get nowadays is a tinge of brown
Now it rains pretty much all yr round. Maybe 6 weeks or so with none.
and getting hotter too.
BUT we still got a proper clock.
SO you Southerners down there.
LEAVE IT ALONE...
Change your zoning to NSW if you want to change the time OK.
I doubrt it would be much of a loss to most Queenslanders.....
We were pretty devastated too by that storm. We could see it coming but had no choice but to sit and wait.
Right on cue it hit with a vengeance but, luckily the groundsmen also saw it coming and rolled out the covers. Only a short time was lost before play resumed and the Pakkis lost all hope of a draw.
I didn't even have time to mow the lawn before it was back on tv.

Hi everyone, come back for chrissy. We got wind and a few drops. Thank goodness. Did not even know about it . I was asleep n woke thinking gee thats windy.
Hi Desert Dweller,
You must have experienced a different winter from us along the Murray if it was this year 2106. We live 5 ks from the river and we experienced the longest, coldest and most miserable and cold winter this year. It rained for most of it and topped it off with a flooded river. As far as weather in South east Queensland goes, it is no different from when I grew up in Brisbane during the 50s and 60s. Savage storms used to descend on the south western suburbs almost every spring/summer afternoon at about 3pm. Could almost set your clock by it. As kids, we had to walk over 2 miles home from school. It was a race between us and the storm to see who or what would arrive first. I loved those days, mother nature at her uncontrollable worst.
cheers,
robyn
we sorta in an Alley here. Hills around and behind.
Island offshore. then the bottom end of reef.
to stop any heavy seas bulding up a roll.
Plus. Tropic of Capricorn.

On hill. Looking at beach and islands
from Farnborough to Rosslyn bay almost.
15 min walk to sand. and 100ish ft above sea level.
43km to city and airport.
Round the other side of hill to town.
4.6km from PO so Net pretty good too. Magic....
You lot elsewhere. will get pretty wet b4 we get any wet socks methink's.
I feel sorry for those that live in those area and collect that weather.
BUT EVERYBODY can move.
They just attached to the Lemming syndrome. Gotta be around other people

There's no such thing as can't. Only the excuses you make to yourself.
