Seven people rescued from croc-infested waters at Cahill's Crossing, Kakadu

Seven people have been rescued after spending hours in the notoriously crocodile-infested waters at Cahill's Crossing near Kakadu after their car was washed off a flooded road.

Car submerged at Cahills Crossing

The four-wheel-drive stalled and was washed off Oenpelli Road and onto rocks in the East Alligator River about 8:00 on Thursday night, Northern Territory Police said.

Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the seven people, aged 16 to 46, clung to the car for two hours as the water rose until a passer-by spotted them and alerted the Jabiru rangers.

"The [Jabiru ranger] members arrived to find an 80s series Land Cruiser submerged in the middle of the crossing and there were a number of people clinging to the roof and the bonnet," Duty Superintendent Jorgensen said.

"The water level was actually over the bonnet, it was about 1.2 metres high and the vehicle had been partially washed off the carriage way into large boulders, that was on the downstream side."

The rangers launched a boat to rescue the group, who police said were unharmed and in good spirits once they made it safely back to dry land.

Hmmm  Possibly full of Spirits !!!

Perhaps those people should not buy a lotto ticket

They seemed to have used up all their luck, for a little while

Glad to see that they are safe, and came to no harm

Hopefully it is a lesson learned

We had a picnic next to that causeway a few months ago when we were staying in Kakadu. It was dry except at high tide.
There were many large crocs hanging around & we were told by locals that every high tide at least a dozen crocs spread themselves along the causeway as it comes in.
They lay with their heads facing upstream & mouths open swallowing all the fish coming in with the tide.
There's no way that we'd be getting out of that car!

You're dead right about the Croc's, Desert Dweller,

In the report, this was also mentioned,...........

It is also a popular spot for sal****er crocodiles and rangers, conducting a survey earlier this year, counted more than 120 crocs in a six-kilometre stretch of the river south from Cahill's Crossing.

Not a good place for Camping at all. !!! nonono

P.S. I don't know why the auto Editor won't allow me to print the type of Croc's

There is at least one of two of those incidents every year.

We often went through there and wondered at the idiots standing there at low tide fishing on the crossing.

One slip and you "did dins".
Same with Corroboree. you could walk over their backs from boat to bank on a good yr.

Croic's IN water. you OUT of water.
