Never heard of a "early" pension but many get a "part" pension, however many (like me) will probably lose that on 1/1/2017 when the rules change.
Personally I'd ring Centrelink on Monday - may need to wait a while to get a human but they can give you accurate info.

Good Luck.

Like the rest I don't know of any early part pension unless you have a disability. Support paperwork from doctors etc needed to apply for this. NDIS is currently being rolled out in Qld but again this is to do with disabilities. If you are looking at/or have already given up work to travel maybe look at the options with your super fund. These are only suggestions. I have no particular knowledge. Down the track let us know how you get on.

One of the triggers for any age pension is, you have to be 65.

Lots of info available here.

You may be thinking of a transition to retirement through your superanuation. I think you can do this from the age of 55. Check we ith your super company

If you are over 55 you can apply for a New Start allowance, if you are out of work, this is approximately $500 a fortnight usually you are not made to look for work but you undertake to carry out 30 hours of voluntary work a fortnight this is called Community Obligation.
You can choose where you do this.
At the present time a number of the men in our local Men's Shed are on Community Obligation agreements, it does not appear to be very rigidly enforced and seems to be fairly flexible with most of our Men only having to report online every fortnight and fill out a new agreement form once every 12 months.
Cheers
David

 Hi David,smile

Lots of good suggestions already given. My particular take on the situation is this. Go to Centerlink with no fear. They have been helpful to us in past years. Sometimes it took an appointment to get the best person but always they gave straight forward answers to questions and even have financial planners you can book in to see for free. They do not make notes on you or the like, in these interviews. Some people think they will hold answer against you or something, but I was always honest and they were straight foward with answers.

Go direct to the source not to a forum. furious

Trouble is, you can ring up 5 times and get 5 different lots of 'up to date information'

Centrelink have a high turnover of call centre staff. They are often poorly trained call centre people that have no idea what they are doing therefore giving wrong and conflicting advice. Centrelink can be a real pain in the ass on the best of days.

But as others have said, they are the right people to ask.

Good luck, John.

Gday...

Ya pretty right with those observations meetoo ... however, I agree with Jaahn.

The only way to get information is to front up to the office - even if it is not in the town you are in - explain what you want/need to know and make an appointment with a staff member in the office who will be someone who knows the answer.

It is the ONLY way interact with Centrelink when I need information.

Cheers - John

If you don't mind spending a bit to get good information, employ a financial planner (not advisor). We did, best money we ever spent. Filled out all the Centrelink forms, organized all our super accounts, made sure we received everything we are entitled to, told us exactly what we would receive from Centrelink & from superannuation
