The world's oldest operating open-air cinema, located in outback Western Australia, is about to turn 100 years old.
Sun Pictures, in the Kimberley town of Broome, is celebrating a century of open-air cinema
Opened in 1916 to show silent films, the picture gardens became a social hub of the isolated outpost for residents of all ages and races.

The theatre has survived air raids during World War II, cyclones and until 1974, regular tidal flooding.
Men had to often carry their dates out of the Theater because of the tidal flooding.
Next week, former owners and regular movie-goers will come together in the open gardens to celebrate the theatre's 100th birthday, a milestone in cinema history that belongs to Australia's tropical north.
