Awning Warning

This an Awning Installed by somebody recommended on this site. Please be Aware, Check and don't take anybody's word. This could happen to you. I'm gutted. It has taken me days and money to fix somebody else's FU. Metal Filings + Rain Water = Rust. He should have cleaned up after the Job or at least asked me if i would. Beware. They are out there. He said it was 1 in a 100 chance of happening. BS I say. Chucker

Yes, been caught like this myself only it was a rainwater tank.
So, after the tradesperson leaves, get your vacuum out and vacuum up any iron filings or swarf they may have left behind (or better still, get them to do it before they leave). Even colourbond surfaces can suffer if this isn't done.
Cheers

Hi Chucker, where did the metal filings come from, fitting an awning to a caravan? I thought all components would be aluminium. Or was it another job they were doing near by. Cheers Pete

When he first fitted the Awning it sat up that high that it looked like a Billboard.. So because I said it's too high , he cut it down by half. Grinding and hack sawing to make it fit. OMG complete disaster. I decided to take the Awning off to check what was under the track while I was repairing the roof rust. Thankfully I did as down the track all those metal Filings would have been rusted. There was heaps of them. Is it my fault that I didn't check for Filings , maybe, and hopefully others get something out of my mistakes...
Gosh I wish I could "Nama and Shame" this Brisbane man.
Chucker.

wasn me.

It's like this :

He said he needed  to raise the Awning above the door so that it wouldn't rub against the door when it was open.

Therefore he added an aluminium border, then he made it too high and had to cut it back (grind it by the looks of it)

and there's your Filings spread all over the roof. .
