Have Retired

Hey All,

Was going to retire in a few weeks and was at work a week or so ago and it was hot and I felt it and while taking a break,

said to self WHY.

So I decided today was a good day to retire and I did and to date have been able to keep out of wife's world or from under her feet..

So we have started getting stuff out of house and getting van ready still will not leave prior to xmas but can get it done now without any rush.

So our new life begins soon.

So near finished setting up web page for kids to follow and others so well on way to getting it all done.

Hi Daveo85, good luck in retirement this is the start of the next phase of your life. I did the same the middle of last year and if you ever watch that ad on TV where the guy pretends to shake hands and then scratches his head, tips his box of stuff into a bin and does a scissor kick as he's leaving the building that was basically how I left my working life. Haven't regretted it yet and I doubt that I ever will enjoy your travelsmaybe we will run into each other out in the playground sometime.

I just left after the day and said nothing to anyone and still not sure if they noticed me gone,

but have turned phone off and getting new number, was so over the building industry in hi rise they still can
never get it right with how that should done, felt like safety was going out the door for money costs.

After 40 years and to still be able to say, its over feels great.!!

Nothing like the feeling of never going to work again! On Mondays & Fridays we always say to each other ''don't you hate Monday morning?'' & ''thank God it's Friday''. Been retired over 6 years now.
Enjoy your retirement & happy, safe travels. happy.gifhappy.gif

Congratulations Dave - a bit sad no-one seemed to really notice you've disappeared, but I guess your work mates think you've gone on to another site ?????

I retired early 4 years ago when the company I worked for decided to liquidate itself to avoid paying its creditors and staff and tried to set up a new business the following day trading exactly the same. Fortunately the liquidators they appointed for the job took them to Court and the Directors (owners) are now banned from owning/being a director for 5 years - oh karma and what goes round comes round !!

Anyway, we sold up the house and goods bought a new ute and van (with the personalized rego plate "LEMON") and toured around our home state of WA for about 8 months and loved it. Came back to Perth and stayed with son for about 4 months then spent almost 2 years in SA, VIC and NSW. But despite getting into social activities with other nomads, lots of touring/sightseeing and even doing volunteer work, we started to get bored.

So came back to Perth, built a house (wish we had bought an established one, but too late now) and both of us are working full time. Wife is back with her previous employer and reckons she hates it (but she loves retail and yapping to her regular customers) and I did a total career type change and got into community health - and I love it.

Doubt if we will retire when we are entitled to the age pension, may cut back a little on the workload and take holidays 3-4 times a year even on unpaid leave. Its not the money (but that helps) but the satisfaction of helping others. And no, we are not stealing work from Gen Y'ers - both our employers are sick of their poor and unreliable work performance. They prefer Baby Boomers who take pride in their work !!
