RV toilet roll

Hi,

So hubby was on a site last night and they recommended that you use RV toilet paper in your rig.   Do you use this?  as opposed to the normal one.    I had not heard of it at all.    The other thing they mentioned was an RV toildet brush.   That got me that one,  I thought a toilet brush was a toilet brush, but apparently not as the toilets in some of the rigs are like portaloo types.   Any advice appreciated.

We just use normal bio-degradable toilet paper. It breaks down just the same. We use a sponge on the end of a holder to clean down inside after spraying with cleaning solution. Don't fill the flusher as it uses too much water. Also use sodium per carbonate  instead of expensive additives. Same chemical. No problems as yet. Col

Awesome, thank you.   Yes hubby was saying if you use a hard toilet brush to clean it , it can scratch and then its very difficult to clean.   I love my carb soda and vinegar, I clean nearly everything with it.   I have to wait till end of next year.  I am NOT impressed....but caravan show on Saturday...woohoo

Just use ALDI 2-ply loo paper (seems to be the go). This is the first I've heard about the brush although it does make sense given your home one is probably porcelain.

Gday Furball.

We have been on the road nearly 4 years now and use normal loo paper (it breaks down like most papers) and woolies boost, give it a good clean when emptying and bingo... No smell

Take care

Just look for 2 ply paper in the supermarkets.

also we use home brand 'napisan' as they don't have the nasties which can upset septic systems.

Napisan and similar products are a No No in septic systems as they use anaerobic (oxygen free) treatment of the waste. Can be used safely in town sewerage systems as they use an aerobic (with oxygen) treatment process. We use Quilton but not the Coles version as it seems thinner maybe to keep the price lower.

Any old toilet paper will do but don't use Napisan and the like as it will rot the rubber seals....

The question was about toilet paper - not napisan, clothes soakers etc. We all have our preferences and reasons for using what we use. There has been a lot of discussion on this subject over the years, and I think the best thing is to agree to disagree.

As for the toilet paper - 2ply - not the cottonelle ones - not printed and perfumed. I find there is one alled I Care, the rolls are double size, and there are not prints or perfumes used - it is 2 ply, but strong - no breakthrough. Sometimes hard to find, but I always have a Coles pack handy for emergencies.

I have been using our van toilet for about 17 years with the original seals.

- Use any old toilet paper.

- Spray bowl with olive oil after cleaning.  Makes it slippery & less 'skid marks' as well as lubricating seals.

- Used nappysan or similar for about 10 years but back to the branded toilet additive these days.

- I clean the bowl with normal harpic or similar using a wad of toilet paper.

Which site? I bet it was a commercial site pushing their own products.

Not actually sure PeterD I think it was on facebook, you know where they have hints and things and he watched it apparently goes for 1.5hrs in total, some fella going around to camps and it was like a list of things to take.  Hubby wrote all the hints on a pad.   The toilet roll was on there, I haven't had time to sticky beak which one it was.    Also said to prechill fridge before use to help products get cold faster, and things like a battery vacuum cleaner, all that kind of tuff.

There's lots of advice out there .. some good, lots not so good.

eg ..

Precooling the fridge is a good idea.  I put mine on for about a week before we go on a trip. When re stocking during a trip I often use the Engel to get the refrigerated groceries' temperature down before placing things in the 3 way fridge.  Fill up spare space in the fridge with things like frozen water bottles (refreeze in camp fridges if in CPs), bubble wrap or inflated or frozen water part filled wine casks.  Keep the door closed as much as possible.

On the other hand things like a battery powered vacuum cleaner is very much an overkill.  Weight is the enemy.  I put one in on the first trip & chucked it out when I got home.  A $2 bannister brush & dust pan does the job.

The toilet roll advice is 'crap'.

................

Be conservative, apply lots of commonsense & make up your own mind.  Don't accept all advice as gospel.

I have a 12v vacuum cleaner - it s a black & decker - bagless - heaps of power, uses very little via the inverter, not as if you are vacuuming a whole house, but it is great for the carpet in the cabin of the MH, and the corners etc., in the living areas of the MH.

I am getting very excited at all the bits n bobs we will be getting.   Have heaps of extra things here at home we don't need, so have been selling them here and there and into the money box the funds go for our extras....LOL.

Ah ah ah love it "crap".  daughter came across a little battery operated vacuum cleaner she shoed me from I think ebay about $20 little thing. so cute.  But I have had to live with clutter all my life for one reason or another none of my doing either btw, so this little black ducks rig will be I tell you spotless, (apart from dust of course) and very minimal.

Just the though of a clean bench not cluttered with other ppls things.   ah  heaven on a plate.

My role is inside and what goes in it, and his role is the techo stuff and stuff for outside.    Thank god he is handy and can make/fix most things.

We have a toilet brush and holder we purchased from Whitworth's the marine goods shop, it's compact and has a non scratch pad for easy cleaning.

I do not know what type of toilet paper is in the RV, but I do know that it is the same as what is in the house

It is therefore certainly not a special type of caravan type toilet paper

The only thing I find 'special' about so called RV toilet paper is the over pricing of them. Pretty much any toilet paper will do.

Cheers, John.

Another urban myth.

12 years and no rotted seals yet.

Cheers,

Peter
