Last time I went over that road in the '80s there were no mountains. Might have changed since. Put some fences in and cleared some land on a large property there called Banyabba Station.

Hi Rocket,

I live in Casino and there are no problems with the road to Grafton, it is called the Summerland Way.

The road from Brisbane to Mt Mee can be winding and hilly, but I have not been that way with a van.

The road from Brisbane to Casino ( Mt Lindsaey Hwy and Summerland Way) is very winding and hilly

a lot of vans go that way but I would take the M1 down to Ballina and then the Bruxner Hwy to Casino

Jonesy again Rocket,

If you did not want  to come to Casino you could just continue down the highway to Grafton.

Hi No hills much, let alone mountains between Casino and Grafton. Very good road all of the way even with a large van. A lot of people use the road in preference to the highway. There are a number of overtaking lanes as well. 100km neat. I am from Grafton and travel the road regularly both with and without a van. Enjoy the Jacarandas.

rocket, we just did that same road today, it was a nice drive with very little traffic.  If your going south after the festival, the road from Grafton to Coffs via Glenreagh is also pretty good. We hate highways and prefer backroads like these.

Have to agree with Jonesy, wouldn't go Mt Lindsay towing a van much better down the M1 go via Ballina, Lismore, Casino or just straight down the Pacific Highway from Ballina to Grafton..............easy.

If you enjoy the back roads the Mt Lindsay Highway is quite doable but slow and narrow in places, the road is much better once across the border into NSW, there is a pleasant cheap camp in Woodenbong $10 per van with power $5 unpowered, has all facilities, run by community volunteers.
Cheers

1..  Mt Mee is north of Brisbane is it not? Where does it fit into the picture?

2.. Back in the days when the road from Sth Grafton to Maclean was mostly concrete slabs I took my van up through the Summerland Way to Casino and out to the Highway at Bangalow. That beat hobby horsing along the concrete. If the road from Lismore to Bangalow was as good as the rest of the road I would still go that way to get away from the road works and traffic.

As far as the rest of the Summerland Way to Brisbane goes, the gradients are nothing particularly steep. There is a fair bit of twisting road from Tylerville to the Qld/NSW border, if you keep your wits about you then this stretch is just a slow road, speed limited by the curves.

Whichever way you go, enjoy our lovely home town when she is dressed to the nines.

Hylda & I will be out and about during the festival but have to admit, apart from the parade, we look forward to the Tafe Markets the most. its the only really big markets we have during the year.

We may see you around somewhere.

Have fun

Jon
