Looking for campsites with waterfront camping.

Have recently bought an inflatable Surfsea boat with an outboard motor and am looking for campsites where it can be used.

Preferably within 3 hours drive from the Gold Coast roughly between Grafton, Tenterfield, Warwick, Dalby and Gympie.

Low cost is an important factor as is the available  length of stay and the opportunity to camp next to the water.

Thanks for any replies,

John.

Do you have Wikicamps? I'm finding that's a great tool for searching. I purchased the ANDROID version (~$8) and installed it on all my android devices.

Maybe Boonooroo (near Maryborough). Quiet park, waterfront, inexpensive

Perhaps Nindi Gully or Bollon.

Beautiful at Kirkleigh on Sommerset dam but not cheap & lots of noisy boats on summer weekends.

Don't know what the charges are these days at Atkinsons Dam or nearby Wivenhoe Dam but both have good water.  Atkins is busy at weekends though with lots of noisy ski boats.

I hope you get lots of replies ....  I too am interested.

Bargara. Two spots there. And Texas if the river is flowing.

A bit far away for your needs, but for others watching this posting, Mallacoota in far Eastern Vic is perfect for waterfront camping with literally 100's of campsites along the inlets shores!

Yes .. gotta agree ... we had a few days right down on the water near those sites with the boat moorings.  Great spot for my kayaks & good fishing too.

Hi John, So glad you raised this question. Looking for somewhere similar for next years trip. Looks like places are becoming scarce in QLD these days. There are many many places along the Murrumbidgee and Murray but of course they are no good in the winter. What I don't understand is if NSW can provide places like that, why not QLD?. Of course, there's always Emerald at "Higher Ground." $7 pn camping by the river if you want. Bit hard to get in with 2WD though lol.
