Great Central Road currently

Hi All, a few months ago I asked for advice regarding our trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs and then West on the Great Central Road to WA.  We drove a Nissan Navara 4WD and pulled a 14ft Windsor Rapid (not an off-roader). You all provided lots of good advice which we heeded.  I can report that the trip on the Gt Central Road was pretty good and others gave good reports too such as "haven't ever seen it this good" and "Four years ago it was terrible, this is much better".  We had good tyres, reduced air pressure to 28 and drove according to the conditions.  Never went above 80Kph and sometimes 40Kph where the road was particularly corrugated (not too much of this though).  Some minor repairs needed but no major damage.  We can report that plastic cable ties to secure wiring under the van are not reliable and didn't do the job for long so something with more strength and give would be better. We started from Yulara and our first stop was Warrakurna Roadhouse, then Tjukayirla Roadhouse and onto Leonora.  We fuelled up at each of these and also Warbuton.  Overall, a great 3 day trip with surprisingly lush bushland all the way.  We also saw wild horses and camels which made it extra special.  Not one kangaroo though!

Hi Salzie,
sounds like a great trip I have going to do it myself , a couple of quires do you have to get permits and do you have to pay an entry fee into Uluru.

Travelling through the national park is free if you aren't stopping but you need a permit you can get that at the Info centre at Yulara no charge  enjoy

You will need a permit to cross indiginous land.
Get one in the Alice, (NT) or Leanora (WA). It is a courtesy.

You can do it online as well.  Print them out at home.

If you are traveling from NT side have the NT permit ready, and show it at the Pay Booth going into the National Park.  You don't pay. But you can still go and visit the sights. Same coming from WA without the Pay Booth at Uluru as you just drive through.

You will probably never be stopped on route and asked to show your permits. But a policeman at Laverton said  " If anything goes wrong like crash, medical emergency, anything the authorities are involved in with regard to you" they will ask for your permit.

DO they get one to cross or travel on ours.

It goes both ways.

This is ALL, Australia for ALL Australians.

Same as that Jardine crossing up the Cape.

We should have a toll booth on this side too.

It's them causing the discrimination in this country.

NOT the white man.

We ALL have red blood.

Until all this stops there'll always be colour discrimination.

We're ALL Australians. BE all Australians.

and live happy hey.

Agree macka17, but as long as we appear to want to live under 3 independent flags (Australian, Torres Straight and Aboriginal) I cant see any chance of being one country of Australians. Bit sad really. Hope all who do the Central Highway enjoy it.
