Well arrived at Home Hill Comfort stop at 10 30 am there was only one caravan there so we made two , Had a walk around town poor old town is drying shop closing down , And at 11 30 went into the hotel across the road from the comfort stop on doug recommendation and he was right great feed at a good price ,Left Home Hill at 1 30 pm and there was still only one caravan there , The coffee shop next to the comfort shop told us they don't get much trade from the RV people who stop there , So was not concrned that there was only one caravan in town .
Glad you called in and tried them. Nothing flash inside but nice meal as you found out.
As for the coffee shop. I don't go in many at all as not a coffee drinker, so if I have a meal 'out' during the day I make it my main meal and look for something suitable. At least you and I have spent money in the 'Town'.

No backers around at the comfort stop and noticed the free power point in the kitchen have been removed , I think the local in the north are doing it tuff and it sad to see , The country side is looking great till you get to Townsville which is very dry miss all the rain ,

1.. The 48 hour stay has actually saved a few shops going under and the locals told me a few years ago that a couple of shops had opened after the introduction of the camp stop. Last time I was there(a couple of years ago) there was a large new IGA store, that's hardly an indication of a dying time.
2.. Yes it's a pity about the coffee shop. A few of us wandered around for a cup of coffee and were repulsed by the staff, one feral looking female who was playing head-bangers music as loud as her ghetto blaster could pump it out. We all left still tonguing for a coffee so we went back to our vans to have it. On previous stops it also did not look very inviting, have only ever had one cup of coffee in it. Pity because a few of us like to have a cup of coffee as we wander around town.
3.. I'm not surprised at the lack of stayers there at this time of the year. Most of the Mexicans are home by Labour Day. Those that are still up there would know that you don't have to arrive until mid afternoon to get a spot. A month or so earlier and you would have had to arrive at lunch time or shortly after to be able to shoe horn in.

I was at Home Hill a few months ago and it was quite lively. Did my shopping at the IGA, got my Hamburger at the cafe on the southern end (run by two lovely ladies) of the Main St. Had a Shower, then settled in for the night. Heaps of campers free camping and walking in the Main St. I've never stopped there in the morning though. I time my trips so I'm there mid afternoon. ;)
