We are planning to travel to Cape York probably September/October next year and will leave my "on road" caravan either in Cooktown, Lakeland or Laura. I am looking to plan an itinerary which includes accommodation (not camping) well in advance during the journey to Cape York and return if this is at all possible. We have a 4WD and will be in no hurry and wish to divert along the way to look at some of the other highlights on the way up and back . Whilst I am doing lot's of my own research I am sure I will get the most valuable advice through this forum from those who have previously done the trip leaving their rig behind as I am planning.

Col have a look at there website I have not stayed there has I have connection in Mareeba but know friends who have and have loved staying there and the owner is a great host . The website still show free storage for people who camp there .
Can't give you any info for your trip. I just had to say that Molly is beautiful. They take a piece of our heart with them when they go! I hope you had many years with her! They just don't stay with us for long enough.
Will do Brickies. TY Hi HunnyBunny. Thank you for your kind words. She was a most beautiful dog and she had a 7 star lifestyle. She was 13.4 years old when her kidneys failed her. She is now buried in a beautiful spot in our backyard with rose trees all around her.

Hi we were in Laura in July and the 2 way traffic heading to / from the Cape is incredible. Laura Roadhouse has fenced van storage so does Lakeland Downs. But you need to book ahead they are both very busy . We are astounded that so many people head up with no idea. We meet a couple who left their van at Palmer River because they didn't know that the road was sealed to Laura These are the fools who are out there! This year the rain has already caused problems on the unsealed roads. Glad you are being so proactive with planning. Local police are the best for current road conditions. Having plan B is essential. We went on the cargo ship to the tip last year anda guy with the most excey camping trailer and a well fitted Landcruiser ute put his vehicle on the ship to return because he couldn't /wouldn't drive back. Poor guy was shocked to see so many indigenous people up there! Yep crazies
Thanks Peter and Chappy. Not overly concerned about road conditions as there are enough website to update you on that. More interested in accommodation availability on the way up and back.
