I was travelling from Cloncurry to Winton on Saturday 27 August when I stopped to help a fellow traveller who had broken fan belts on his 100 series diesel Toyota Landcruiser. This was 30klms north of Winton. He was towing a 23 foot caravan. Working on his car, I inadvertently left some of my tools with him in the dark.
I don't know his surname. I would like to get in contact with him to recover my tools. His name was Steve and his wife's name was Wendy. They were returning from a trip to the Northern Territory. They live in the Newcastle area, and he has been heavily involved in the automotive industry. He also owns a Toyota Tacoma.
If you know Steve, could you please pass this message onto him.
Good to hear from you. It's a small world. We are back in Bris Vegas missing life on the road. Of all people to reply to my post.
The incident in Winton was very interesting. Somebody stopped and gave Steve a belt. We tried to fit it, but it was 5mm too short. So we went off to Winton on Saturday night. Steve managed to contact the owner of the local mechanical repair shop at 8PM. This incredible fellow came down and opened up his workshop straight away and found replacement belts. This would only happen in the country. Thumbs up to Central Motors Winton
Janelle also sends her regards.

Another thing NEW travellers neeed in their Instruction of towing etc. Before going anywhere.
NOBODY should go away from home. without Belts. 1 x Front/1 x rear bearing. Hoses. and a min of 1 ltr of All fluids in car. 5 ltrs of coolant. I also carry globes, and a spare tyre tube.Genny WITH tools to do them. Also have 2 battery's in rear and handful of 1.5mm weld rods.
Even if YOU incompetent at mechanical things. IF... You have items to do the job, with the parts. Somebody will be capable of getting you going. Probably with a smile while doing so. (Good deed for the day, I always think)
It's unbelievable how many just get into a vehicle and head off , wherever. with NO thought of covering "Possible" whoopsy's.
NOTHING is perfect. Cover your ass.
"Heavily involved in Motor industry"....
And no belts. Hoses, etc....... Come on.
There really is "dumb and Dumber...."

No I haven't posted on any other forums. I understand Steve had undertaken the trip to NT with a few others, so I was hoping one of these may see the post, if Steve doesn't.
Steve told me the Landcruiser had been professional serviced for the trip, and replacement of the fan and a/c belts was part of the work requested. He was pretty miffed that although he paid for new belts, he hadn't got them.
