Winnebago Wilderness : any feedback?

Hello future friends We are about to hit the road for the first time and are eying off a 1998 Winnebago Wilderness in great condition with 89k for just under $ 70000. Any thoughts ? Has anyone owned or has any experience with these old girls?
Built on an Isuzu NPR 300 they're probably bombproof but how are they to travel in and own?
Or do you have any better ideas before we hand over our money to Australian Motor Homes in Newcastle who so far have been a singularly unhelpful mob to deal with. Are we the only ones struggling with this company?
Anyway lots to chat about.Looking forward to meeting some of you on the road soon.
Thank you for reading and responding.

Have you had an outside evaluation and mechanical check over of the rig?

Hi, have no experience with the vehicles or the company. Does it come with a servicing record book? Just a thought.

I wanted to say "Welcome to the forum".

Cheers.

Hello Antonio

Firstly welcome to the forum

I am sure that if anyone has/had that type of vehicle they will come forward and let you know

All I can tell you about Winnebago is that they are built much more solid than a Jayco
My brother has a Winnebago on a Ford chassis, and I have a Jayco on a Fiat Chassis
Therefore I have something I can compare

Unfortunately when it comes to second hand Recreation Vehicles, they could have been either used or abused
If you are not mechanical savvy, then an inspection from those who are, is usually helpful
Over here in the west, the RAC will pre check a vehicle for you, for a price

In my opinion, (so I could be wrong), if the seller is a company, and are unhelpful before they sell
I will assume that they will still be unhelpful after they sell
Also there are a lot of sellers out there

Hope that this info is helpful to you

In most cases a motorhome can't be thrashed the same as a truck with the things inside . It's mainly service and condition of mechanicles . I listen to the way an engine starts from cold, check blowby at the crank case breather .. Too much smock means bad rings . Check and feel for smooth braking etc .. Isuzu are good vehicles .We used then as work trucks . Although you may get complaints of RV's from people buying new ? You'll find they'll mainly be trivial faults, mainly aesthetic .. I have a Winnie Exporer and would buy another !!

Hi Antonio, I ordered a new motorhome from these guys last year and due to unforeseen circumstances had to cancel the order. My personal experience was that I found them to be fairly reasonable throughout the process although obviously they were disappointed about losing a sale. I was happy that we were able to come to an agreement about refunding most of my deposit even though the contract said they were entitled to keep the whole amount.

I agree with Tony if you believe that someone is being unhelpful prior to a sale do you really think that this is going to improve after they get hold of your money ? Plenty of other RV dealers out there - we found when we were looking that the Sydney RV Center usually had a pretty good stock of used motorhomes in all sorts of different price ranges.

Hi Antonio - did you end up going with the Winnebago Wilderness? We just purchased a 2001 Winnebago Wilderness (also on the Isuzu NPR300) and am keen to hear what others are experiencing with the rig.

Regards Lyne
