Victorian fire authorities are preparing for a late-starting but intense fire season with areas around the Otway Ranges and Great Ocean Road again under increased threat.
On the back of prolonged dry conditions, good autumn and winter rains are predicted to lead to increased grass growth, significantly heightening the risk of grass fires over the new year.
The seasonal bushfire outlook has identified high risk of fire in western and central Victoria, especially in the Otway and Brisbane ranges, Wombat Forest and dry forest areas bordering Victoria's box-ironbark belt.
Late-season fires are also expected in south-west Victoria and Gippsland, including Melbourne's water catchments.

From Coast to Coast, We'll see it all.......One Day
When we came here 40 Plus yrs ago. and still so in the Territory.
People used to burn off the grass. BEFORE it got too long.
Preceding these massive fires.
It worked well.
Then the greenies stepped in and got the govt's to ban ALL from doing it.
Dumb was never good enough for them.
They are that thick they border on criminal.
If people were to preburn when grasses shorter. and more often if necessary.
80+% of these fire problems would go away.
There's be NO long grasses to blaze away.
You'd think that most "intelligent" persons would realise such nowadays.
and do something about it.
