Just thought I would put this up for those who haven't heard about it - it is in the Free/Budget Camps sub forum - this park is quite big, if people park with a bit of care for others, could fit about 50 or so vans in the area. TOTALLY self contained only!! There are rubbish bins.
On High Street, near the Stockland shopping centre, walking distance - fuel station, movie theatre, and take aways, as well as the beautiful gardens. The ranger comes through late afternoon, takes rego numbers, moves on those with no toilet, 48 hour stay.

Jules can you tell what is the basic to be self contained , Is a porta potti and a 10 lt drum to collect you sink waste ok or do you have to have a built onboard grey water tank .
The ranger said she just asks if they have a toilet - as there are no facilities nearby through the night, if they don't, they must move on. As for water drop - as long as you contain it, I have seen people with buckets under their drains. It is a gravelly area, so containing water is to your own benefit I think. Plenty of gardens nearby to water.

I live in Rockhampton and happened to visit the free camping area last Sunday morning to take photos of the nearby waterfall. I don't know if the entire Kershaw Gardens is re-opened since the cyclone but the majority of it is. I saw a few caravans with buckets/water bottles catching the grey water.
We have stopped going North and coming back South on our North Queensland adventures. You should check our posting "Mena Creek to Hervey Bay on the Bruce then to the Pilliga". This is a popular spot and while it says it is "self contained" it is far from it. We were there 48 hrs going North and 24 hours coming back South. Several campers could not even put a bucket out for grey water several just make life difficult for others in terms of parking. If you need toilets try Stocklands before closing time and as well there are toilets in the gardens keeping in mind that the Gardens are still partially fenced off due to the cyclone. Note water/dump point on the highway North just past Bunnings on the left.
We spoke to the workers emptying the bins on our way up and they were trying to settle a dispute over parking (motor home parked directly in front of Caravan), they indicated that as long as people observed the basics, no extended stays, no mess, the powers to be did not mind. However, if theer was a complaint and white utility appeared with Rocky Council lettering "look out"
