My spell checker dosen't work!

Some time ago I took up the offer of installing windows 10, after a few up-grades using up our precious internet time, I have a stable and usable package.

W10 came with a new internet browser called "Edge" a program that was "In your face" and did all sorts of weird things I wasn't familiar with. So I stuck with Internet explorer, did what I wanted, however overtime things stopped working, such as logging into this site etc. I was having to use Edge more and more.

Finally made Edge my default browser, and found and tweaked the settings. I now have a blank home page and quite a usable program. I am now permanently logged into GN's, which saves me the hassle of signing in each time.

But I have one major problem, the spell checker does not work, it highlights the mistakes, when I want to see what alternative spellings there is, it comes up with some gobboly goke I don't understand. Do any others have this problem?

I am having no trouble, I suggest that you ask Google as there are others having the same problem as you are so I am sure the answer is there.

Hello iana

Usual disclaimer. I am not a computer geek

Some people using Microsoft Edge are receiving alternative spell check words in a foreign language (gobboly goke)

If this is what happening to you
From Google website but buried into one of the replies, (you indicate that you have limited Internet time), the work around is

Quote
Settings, Time add Language, add your region and under languages add the languages you use. The languages you choose will appear on the toolbar

For me the easy solution of sorting Windows 10, without all their bells and whistles, was to bring up Firefox, and then allow it to install itself, I then brought up Google Australia, and set it as my home page
If you decide to use Firefox then this is how you install the dictionary used for spell checking

Quote from PeterD, in another topic, so thank you PeterD
If you use Firefox, go to Tools > Add-ons and in the "Search all add-ons" box type in "Australian Dictionary." The first offering that comes up is an English (Australian) Dictionary.Click on the "Install" button on the RHS and you will get a dictionary tailored to Oz language. It will also correct most of the town and river names in Oz.

Hope this helps you out

I googled the problem, seems I'm not the only one. Down loaded the Australian language set, and something else 7 mb later still no joy. Thanks for the help, I will continue looking. Actuarly I may have mislead, The checker high lights the misspelled words, but I cannot get a list of alternative words as corrections. It is however teaching me to brush up on my spelling.

When I installed 10, I also installed Google "chrome"(used it for last 5 yrs)

After trying most of the others I find Chrome SImple and bulletproof.

I've always spell checked my own work whenever I do text.
Occasionally one gets through. shrug.

Not sure of a word.
Highlight it. Right click and it gives a selection.

Don't be lazy. It improves you too.
