Are Google maps or Apple maps on a Iphone as good as the multitude of Gps that are available to download , the only thing i can say is that Google and Apple use Data where the others don't from what i have read, looking at one that will keep me on the highways as much as possible, some of the earlier GPS units used to take shortcuts into the never never lol
And if i was to down load what is the most reliable
Google/Garmin have been taking us around for 40 yrs.
They ALL have glitches in the directions.
Having a wife who can navigate with paper maps is the only deterrant of such
PLUS giving reliable shortcuts.
I've always relied on Garmin for my travels (plus Di.)
since Pre "Sat Nav" days.
Off road.
apart from Custom maps. I'd go HEMA or Mudmaps
both updated regularly..along with a good Topographical paper chart.
Try Sygic offline maps, you can try it for free, you can even buy the app with lifetime map updates. I have the paid version on my Iphone and a mini Ipad with a Cellular connection (Cellular and wi fi). I have even bought an aftermarket double din in dash unit and have loaded Sygic (you have to buy Android version) and I have just switched to an Android phone. It runs on that as well.
I am very impressed with the app. It will even take GPS coordinates from the Camps book and Wikicamps. On an Android phone, it will send Wikicamps coordinates straight to Sygic, if you have both apps.
