The Huckleberry Jim Story

Hi again to all,

I took Lambie with me on a Huckleberry walk about this afternoon, after Lambie says we need to walk. Walk we did.

From our camp site on the edge of the escarpment East of Euchla over looking the beaches far off in the distance. Lambie says can only be 10 to 15mins walk.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I tell Lambie more like 75mins at a quick March! I marked our root down all the way. She is laughing at me for doing so. Do you think you are going to get lost.wink Nope.She chould have used a hang glider to get her there. Well after 73mins we arrive.

Look at all the rubbish she says. That's not all rubbish Lambie, there is treasure to be had. All this stuff rydes the ocean currens till the big  storms wash it up.

We spent 4 hours along that section alone. A gold mine. To find the good stuff you need a solid rake. Millions of cuttle fish bones, tons of fishing net and rope. Bottles with lids screwed down tight.

Our take for the afternoon go's like this. One bottle with made in London 1820 on it, a lovely square green bottle from Holland, one from Spain. Five floats from trawlers that I tied together with old rope To enable me to carry back to the top.2 mega cuttlefish bones.

Well Lambie its time to head back, the sun will drop back over the escarpment and we won't be able to find your way.

Well Well my Lambie turns about and her mouth drops. Where did we come down.smilesmilesmile Come on smartie one, you can leed. You have one hour of good light. Leed on.

after 5mins Lambie gives up. How do you know which way. So I started her off, come on we need to get a move on or we will suffer a cold night. Follow our tracks that we made. Coming down! I can't see any tracks she replies. Well well well. Next time he who laughs last, laughs best. Leave it to the old Bushie.wink

More adventures ahead.

Get a Bushnell 'Backtracker' Jim..small GPS device fits in the palm.....only one button to press and you will never lose your way back to vehicle again...tells you exactly how many metres to the vehicle and which direction to take....has got me out of strife many times in the donga...even though I carry 2 x top of range Magellan Triton 2000 GPS.....$100 odd dollars...a child can set it....many oldies in the U.S. use them to find exactly where they left their vehicles in Supermarket carparks...

Did you get any KG whiting?.....I would have thought Salmon and Sweep would be the go from the rocks/beach?......

You will know you are losing your travelling virginity when like me you have experienced the joys of changing a completely shredded tyre on the Van...valve stem gave way on near new tyre....on the Nullabor.....very soft wet road edges and you have brutes of trucks sailing past and the van nearly gets sucked off its jack....things like that never seem to happen in easy places to stop....all part of the experience..
All the best to you both..safe travelling....and finding your way back!....Hoo Roo

Jim, I would get that GPS unit mate. At least you will find your way back to Jayco next time :) Shut the front gate! I had a vision of you lost and hiding behind bushes, I couldn't sleep from the sight :) Keep Safe on the roads.

It's an ageing thing with most of use the old memory is not like it used to be, my memories not what it used to be , my missus keeps reminding me, she even says that if I lose it completely she's going to remove my identification and put me on a train heading some where interstate.confuse

Hey Jim - you are starting out collecting things pretty early in your trip - will come a time, when you will say to Lambie - what is all this stuff, why are we carrying it, then throw it out, when you realise the extra weight you are hauling!!!!

I know - it keeps on being said to me - no more rocks!!!!!!!
