Water-bombing aircraft in Victoria

Good luck to Victoria,

But not such luck for W.A. Firefighters,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Two firefighters with a hose try to extinguish flames in a paddock.

Volunteer bushfire brigades angry over Western Power grant cut 'smack in the face,

A decision by Western Power to cut an $80,000 a year grants program for volunteer firefighters has caused anger and sparked calls for the West Australian Government to intervene.

Under the scheme, initiated in 2007, volunteer brigades across the state could apply to Western Power for up to $5,000 in donations for the purchase of equipment.

Seems like only a short time ago (was it during the mining boom?) that WA was thumbing it's nose at the rest of OZ, there were even rumblings of secession, how things have changed.biggrin

mmmmmmm..............we're till thumbing our nose - WA gets the lowest amount of Federal funding for infrastructure and major projects, like roads, than the rest of Aust. We get the lowest GST for GST tax we contribute than the rest of Aust. The two major parties in the last federal election promised funding for sports stadiums in the Eastern States. WA asked for the same and got none.

Seems we go it alone on so many things compared to other States and Territories that we'd be better off going it alone. Primary industry and industrial construction for overseas projects as well as high tech stuff is slowly replacing iron ore. We certainly didn't get the subsidies that SA got for so many years from the rest of Aust to prop up the car industry

Well said Bruce,  Another thing I noticed was, when all these "gifts" in the way of Royalties from the mining boom were handed out to other States, not one of them knocked them back, in fact some would be deep in it right now, if it wasn't for the generosity of the Fed Gov't,

It was a pity the W.A. Gov't didn't say, we will look after our State first, then give the left over to the free-loaders, instead of paying millions to Canberra and then having to go cap-in-hand, trying to get some of the wealth back.

I think, if there is another big mining boom, be it in Iron Ore or gold, or any other new major revenue raiser, the Fed's   will be the ones who will be knocking at the Boarder, but by then there might be a big sigh there reading............
