We've had years with international soccer (football) with the huge corruption at all levels.
Now we see the Olympic Games being held in a 3rd world country with out of control crime (latest is a Kiwi competitor kidnapped by police and forced to take his money out of ATMS), disease - especially water borne, competitor accommodation leaking, dangerous and dirty and the local poor people pushed out of town.
Why have these major events in poor countries when the money could be better spent on their own poor and hold them in well established countries who already have event locations built from previous games?

I think that it may be better to hold the games in the same country every year. Perhaps in Athens or where ever the first games were held.
Perhaps in the nude as was the custom too. No females of course LOL.
edit ... On second thoughts, inclusion of females might increase the viewing audience
Don't get me started on the Corrupt Officials in world organisations like FIFA, IOC and of course United Nations subsidiaries like UNESCO etc. Snouts in the trough.

Divid the world into 1/4 and let that section nominate to run the games ? Just maybe prevent corruption ? Like to think nearby countries could assist and eventually everyone wins ?? Pfft. But I'm dreaming !!
I have been saying this about the Olympic Games for years. It seems to me that the games should be held in Greece where they started and that all countries that want participate pay a yearly amount to the upkeep and development.
the current games is a crime in as much as the people who live in Reo are mainly below the world poverty line along with the crime rate that is running rampant.
