Glendambo Hotel

As an avid user of Trip Advisor I recently posted a review after a visit to Glendambo Hotel & two nights in the caravan park. We enjoyed out visit to Glendambo except for our return trip where we found the manageress to be quite  rude & critical of travelers & really not happy to be there at all. She even told us she hated her job there & didn't want to extend her contract any longer.. Her barman was wonderful ! My truck was stuck at a petrol pump in the driveway of the service station. I had rung the R.A.C.V. who had told me they would not be there for four hours. At the end of his shift the barman came to help us with the truck. To my embarrassment he started the truck right away. Seems I didn't have it in park correctly! By this time is was late so we stayed over night. This is a copy of my post.

My Sister & I made an unplanned stop after having a slight problem with our car. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Glendambo. So much so that we also stayed on our return visit. It is an outback experience so you will pay for it. You will also need to remember that they rely on bore water so you can expect to see some scale in the showers! this is a result of the salinity in the water. Don't let it scare you off from enjoying a welcome hot shower. I have no idea about the Motel facilities as we stayed in the caravan park. The bar man that looked after us & also helped with my truck was extremely friendly, & helpful. I believe his name was Neville. On our return trip we found our barman was enjoying some well deserved time off. We missed him as we found the service to be quite the opposite. Pity that the Manageress just didn't want to be there!

This  is a copy of her response to my review

I had your last review for this Venue removed as our Neville is not supposed to be helping roadside assistance. People are supposed to

call their own service provider. This instruction has come from our Head Office as Neville is paid to do maintenance on the Hotel.  Unfortunately as you persisted on putting up another review stating that he has helped you with your car, Neville will be leaving his   employment shortly.  This is very disappointing to us here at the Hotel.

What a terrible response.

Looks like the Manageress wrote it.

Perhaps you should post your review & response on other sites like 'Turu'

My wife and I stopped there for a refuel and a meal.

Rude would be a compliment for this woman!! I suggested she resign and find a job where she doesn't deal with people on the frontline! EVERYBODY she attended to that morning were absolutely gobsmacked at her attitude.

I only hope that head office reads these posts and gives the Manageress her marching orders and re-employ's Neville as the manager, what a top bloke and extremely good for business!

I have been trying to find out who & where head office is! Yes, it was the manageress ( Kerry ) who sent me the reply. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I read her response. I have also shared this story on facebook!

Good luck finding out how to contact the owners - this woman needs to be sacked forthwith without the option of resigning and getting a good work reference through her line managers lack of knowledge about what a cow she is !

In Esperance there is a CP there who had a Manageress who was the same as this. There were so many adverse comments about her attitude and rudeness on wikicamps and she would actually fire back more rude comments on wiki.

Her husband worked the grounds and was a really nice and helpful bloke (probably made to sleep under the house at night lol).

We actually got on very well with her when she found out my wife was born and grew up in the same town as her. She told us her and hubbie were off on 3 months holiday shortly and we followed the posts about the CP on wiki. Interestingly, a post appeared saying it was under new management - obviously someone managed to track down the owner of the place and they had a read of wikicamps and they never returned from their holidays.

Likewise the CP at Woomera, SA. Its owned by a private equity company in Sydney and the manager (with his wife not much better) hates most people and really hates overseas visitors. We stayed there twice and frog marched around the place to keep the peace, but watched and listened to him screaming abuse at various campers, especially if their spoken English was poor. The owner company didn't care as they wanted to eventually sell the land to Rio Tinto to expand their nearby mine site (the same company that ripped off investors with Dick Smith when they floated that company.

It shows how much upper management care, when they completely ignored the negative, comments I made in regards to their manageress. Instead they focused on the positive part of my post & gave instruction to end the employment of their best asset! There is obviously something very wrong with that picture.

Perhaps, if like most of us you had simply made a note not to stop there again instead of stirring the pot Neville would still have a job.

Sometimes things are good, sometimes they ain't, it's called experience and is a process of learning.wink

The reason we stopped on the way back was because we had been treated so well by Neville on our way to Alice. If we had of known the situation was going to take such a turn on the way back we wouldn't have stayed. The Manageress wasn't there the first time so we hadn't had the pleasure. I sure was not stirring any pot!

If it hadn't been you Bunny, that apparently caused Nev to loose his job, it would have been some other customer - so I wouldn't stress that you cause him to apparently loose his job - he no doubt would have fallen out with the Manageress anyway with her lack of, and his good customer service ethics. She would have sacked him for smiling or saying please or thank you.

I looked at the Hotels website - hilarious as to how they portray themselves compared to reality.

RE: Woomera Hotel

Bruce

We disagree, my wife and I had the pleasure of recently (April 16)staying at the Woomera CP and had a thoroughly good time, both the man and his wife who manage this park were extremely courteous and helpful, her father who had previously managed this CP was also polite and cooked the very best pizzas we have ever had. The amenities were sad, but, the water was hot and the other travellers all had a great time at "The Cudgie Bar".

Glendambo Hotel

Stayed in the old brick wing at Woomera - twice. It was spartan and well worn. The Bar and Pizzas and meeting everyone else was great - a different twist on a camp kitchen. However I believe the flamboyant barman can get grumpy. The worst place for PR that I've ever struck was at Port Augusta by the water. Up there with Glendambo by the sounds.

This is actually in Glendambo! Not Woomera. Glad you found some great service at Woomera though.
