Hello Hans. A warm welcome to Grey Nomads. We will all be very happy to help you and in turn we look forward to reading many of your posts in the future about problems, queries and your travels.

Do you have a particular caravan you are looking at to tow with the Santa Fe? What brand is it, dimensions, weights etc.....

I have a 2007 CM Santa Fe Diesel auto with 150000 klms on the clock and tow a Jayco Discovery 16.42.2 18ft single axle caravan.
The van is 1340kgs dry, 135kgs on the ball dry,  the car tows it beautifully! Keep an eye on your weight distribution as I have had my towball weight up to 180kgs!

My sister-in-law has a 2009 CM Santa Fe and Jayco Eagle, been everywhere in that one!

My mate has a 2012 R series Santa Fe and 17ft Coromal and he says that he doesn't feel it on the back

If you have a 2010-2012 CM with the R series engine and 6 speed auto gearbox, you would be in your element!

Warning: - Do not buy the DM series (2012 onwards) as they only have 100kg Towball download.
I have just had an argument with Hyundai about their ad on TV where it shows a Santa Fe towing a horse float.
They admitted to me that the vehicle has been modified with a Tow Assist Kit. No mention of it in the ad though! ($1000 for the kit)
Clear case of misleading advertising!

I concur with that - however, the Tow Assist Kit only up-rates from 100kg to 150kg ball - still too low for many Aussie vans

Same problem with the 'sister' KIA's, the latest Sportage and Sorento only have 100kg towball weights. Best Sorento is the earlier BL series up to 2009 - 2300kg/230kg or 2800kg/280kg.

Also I was curious about the new Havals (only curious, not serious) they emailed me back - all current Havals also have only 100kg towball weights.

What is it with current manufacturers ? - relatively good towing capacities at 2000kg, but 100kg towball is only box trailer level (or expensive lightweight euro vans i.e. Swift, Bailey, Ellddis, Adria, etc) - seems they all want 7 passenger ride comfort over towing ability - might just as well limit the tow capacity to only 1000kg to match the ridiculously low 100kg ball weight !!!
