While friends of our daughter were setting up camp on the Dampier Peninsula last week, their 5year old son decided he would play with his Tonka truck. Unfortunately he picked the wrong spot! Previous camper had extinguished their campfire by covering it with sand!!. Two trips into Broome, two trips into Derby and now 4 hours to change the dressings on his leg every day. Please DO NOT cover your campfire, extinguish it with water! To ensure this type of accident does not occur again.

Hi John, sorry to hear that. You wonder why people don't extinguish their fires properly, after all its probably been going for many hours. So it'll take a fair amount to extinguish it fully, apart from what happened to the poor little boy there's also the risk of bushfire.
Cheers Owen.

When our kids were little we pulled up at an empty camping spot & the kids decided to jump on a mound of earth which promptly adhered to the melted soles of their gumboots. Luckily they didn't get burnt. Some people think ''out of sight, out of mind''. Fires can smoulder for a week when they're buried. Please douse them.
