A real PR stunt. The people who is was intended for either don't have TV reception or don't watch TV news.

The WA Police have been doing this on and off for years now and its a feel good exercise for the senior officers, pollies and those who don't understand the effects alcohol have had on indigenous people.

All that will happen is the Centrelink money used to buy the crushed booze has been spilt on the ground and the drinkers will have already dipped into their payments to buy replacements. The loosers are the kids and sometimes the wives (if theyre not alcoholics as well) who will go without food.

Not so. The people who it is intended for are those who would try to make a buck by bringing grog into communities that have chosen to be grog free. Those communities understand the issues clearly and deserve all the support we can give them.

In the case of the grog in question, those who owned it have already been convicted.

It is also a message for travellers to some areas to not exceed the limits that are allowed. Searches do happen and penalties are severe.

In another life I worked in a little country Victoria prison. One day we confiscated a bottle of Whiskey. After decanting the whiskey we filled the bottle with cold tea and took it out to muster and with all the prisoners lined up we emptied the tea onto the ground. Never found another bottle after that. I think they hid it better.

What I meant to write was GUYS not GUTS,

What I was implying was that the prisoners could have been one step ahead of you and reversed the situation by changing the whisky to tea before you found the bottle,

The problem here and elsewhere.
Is giving them CASH .

Food vouchers. Clothing vouchers. no rent.
Make sure it goes/gets to family first.

50 yrs ago in Germany for one.
You unemployed.
You fronted at a muster point with card.
Agent stamped card in Morn. and allocated you work.
sweeping streets. cleaning old folks places etc.
End of 6 hr shift. Back to Muster point get card stamped again.
(He did go round and check on them)

End of month. they got food vouchers. clothing vouchers. invoice for their rents.Transport tickets.
and a SMALL amount of cash.

Principal of it was.
YOU want cash YOU work for it.

and for every day NOT signed off on.
Zilch. NADA.
Not like these softies nowadays.

I was in UK army.
Girl friends father was one of the organisers in Dortmund.

WOuld be a bloody good idea here too.
Vouchers not cash..
You want some money.
Off arse and work for it like we do mate.

I know of people on aged Pension.
NEVER worked a day in their lives. and I'm talking whities here.

No unemployment benefit there ... no work, no pay, no food, nuffin.

The unemployed line the major roads hoping to be picked up by trucks on their way to worksites ... or they congregate at worksites and hope to get some work - labouring for 20pesos a day .... when I was there that was $AU1. hmm

After living there back in the 1990s, I firmly believe that Strayans should spend some time living in those areas and they would appreciate the very soft and cossetted lifestyle they have in Straya.

Maybe its different in other States..........I speak with some knowledge about WA, having worked up north for some years and employing indigenous folk in manual and semi skilled work. Alcohol is a real killer for these people and they are exploited often by those of the same race who take their Centrelink payment cards away and sell them on the black market. The recipients pay for this booze usually before its smuggled in

You're dead right in you're reply there Bruce, I also have worked in the North of W.A. and have seen what went on back in the early 70's,

it was a common practice for one particular Taxi Driver in Carnarvon to hold a heap of Pension Cards for people living on out-lying areas, When-ever they wanted anything, ( mainly Grog ) all they had to do was give this bloke a call and he would pick up their order and deliver it to them, he was ripping them off something shocking , by charging one heck of a lot more for anything he bought for them and then charging Taxi rates on top of that for delivery, but it never worried them, The Government Man would give them more a week or two later.

This Bloke did get caught, and did Jail time in the end, but he had made a fortune in the mean time from this practice.
