Pajero Sport

We are very close to buying a Pajero Sport and wondered if anyone here had or had heard anything positive or negative about them. We would much appreciate any thoughts about the vehicle

Gday...

There was a bit of a discussion a while ago Ger08 ... this might give some reading until any current, up-to-date comment/advice is received.

A friend of mine bought one. He is still trying to figure out the GPS thingy.

He is also a Tasmanian so I'm sure he will have it sorted by Christmas

PS He reckons it goes OK

Irrespective of which brand, a lot of these new models with all the bling are no match for older models when it comes to towing despite what the makers claim. They also have a lot more things to go wrong with them, but boy do they look good.

I normally avoid trying out new vehicles in case I am tempted to buy one. I did, however, sit in a Pajero Sport one day and was appalled at the lack of visibility - forward and rearward. The windscreen is so heavily raked that the front A pillars obstruct my vision and you could hide a B double truck behind the pillar and I would not see it. Yes - I sit very high in the seat, and this complaint applies to a lot of new vehicles (including the Toyota Corolla, Mazda BT50 and my wife's Mits Outlander) but the later model vehicles seem all to be heading the same way. I guess it is to improve aerodynamics, but for me it is a critical issue if I were to buy a new vehicle.

Rearward visibility is bad for all new vehicles, and a camera doesn't help that much either. I sound like an old grump, but I do remember cars of old which had much better visibility and access.

Regarding reliability, I have no reason to suspect the Pajero Sport as being good or bad, but as far as I know they use the 2.5L turbo diesel engine. This is probably the same engine as used in the Triton and Challenger, and if you look on www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum they have a section on these vehicles (including Pajeros Sport) and you can check these models for problems raised by members. There has been some issue with the 2.5L engine but I am not sure if they continue with the Sport as well.

In 120,000 klrs I couldn't kill s Triton diesel . Trust me I tried . Never abused and was well serviced ! Which is most the issues with modern Diesel engines ..

I own a challenger 2.5 diesel 150,000 ks on the clock can't kill the thing, with the new sport to me they look a bit light in the body compared to the challenger, and personal view, the car looks like a stick insect, but it's like the man that kissed a pig,he said everyone has there own taste....

Hi Ger, I almost bought one. I think they are great value compared to many other  makes. So many extras on them.  I ended up buying a ford everest. The main thing that deterred me was  there was no towing history. Time will tell if I was right or wrong. Check out the posts here with search and also the mitsubishi forums.

good luck

Steve

Thanks again for all the responses - Steve had a look at the Everest but just couldn't get the accountant to approve the extra dollars.
