G'day Robert,

From what I have seen in my travels with people with 'Aframes' and a little car on the back is they remove the car before reversing.

Probably not much help, hey disbelief cry

Keep Safe on the roads.

Hi Dougewe

Good to here from you. Hows the weather in Townsville. I have also herd that but as an old truckie i think that it may be similar to backing a dolly tailor on a road train. We get it back this arvo so will have a play with it in the supermarket car park. Thats intertainment keep well mate cheers.

With an A Frame flat towing a vehicle one of the major points when towing is there must be a key in the ignition switched to auxiliary to prevent the steering lock being engaged. For security I had a manual key cut that would be able to keep the steering lock disengaged but not start the engine.(No Chip in the key)

This allows the front wheels to follow the tow vehicle.  It isn't possible to reverse a flat tow vehicle because as soon as you do the steer wheels of the towed vehicle go off track and you jack knife the tow. It is possible to back very short distances if you put someone in the tow vehicle and keep the steering wheel centred.( Not advisable) As a previous post said far better to unhitch and reverse the tug alone then re-hitch.

All good here Robert. Hot. It is 25c at 10am but it 2as hotter at this time yesterday.Better than being cold though.

Let me know when you try reversing mate and I will get my deck chair out and a big box of popcorn. I reckon it will be cheaper then going to the movies.

Very funny Dougwe The difficulty or non ability to reverse a car in an A frame must pose the question, that a small robust trailer is far preferable.?

Look at the old Troopy's etc when Graders were the thing.
A Frame mounted on troopy front end.
Pin connection to rear of grader etc.

Just tow it to where you want. Lift out pin. back troopy etc to wherever.
Then drop pin back in again.

It's not worth the hassle if you not experienced.

Try backing a 20 ft semi tray sometime
That's interesting at first.

Should see us when we first start driving the Multi's
(Road trains).. That IS interesting.
The old 4/6 legger with 4 wheel trlr is good experience too.

People NEVER go far enough forward b4 reversing.

ALL wheels in alignment b4 you start. If you have multiples of.

Have fun.

I've been doing it for over 50 yrs and still stuff up occasionally.
Only ever when somebody watching though.
Perfect my myself.

I have met Robert (Dishlicker), Tony and he will know I said that as a joke. We have all at some stage and I still do slip up occasionally when reversing into a spot.

No offense intended Dougwe. I did find your reply funny and the comment about a trailer was more if a question. I didn't punctuate it correctly. Cheers

No - can't reverse with A framed vehicle on back. Although we have done it for about a foot, with no hassles. But I think there may be something to do with the braking system that goes with our A frame (Ready Brute) that makes it inadvisable.

Anyway, it only takes a couple of minutes to remove car from A frame, which then folds up and is held at back of bus.

Jade46 and everyone else is right on the money about aframe reversing ,definitely cannot reverse with the ready brute , but can be disconnected in a matter of minutes if you have to reverse.

Gooday Yuglamron

I have to get a spare key cut today for the ignition and also a good point is to lock the doors in the tow vehicle so that it cant be accessed when stopped at lights ect how would you be if some idiot was to open the door and pull the hand brake on ..... any way safety first cheers

You cannot reverse with an A frame you will damage the telescopic rods on most units.
