i am planning to travel through Windorah in a month oR so. Is this town a good place to visit and any recommendations for caravan park or free camp? Has anyone travelled to Judah via Thomson Development Road?
Welcome to the gang Jim-Jim, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Make sure you take time to check out all then different sections of this great forum and ask any questions or post comments in the appropriate ones. It makes it easier to find by you and others once they have reached the dungeon.
Take Care on the roads.

Hi Jim jim , Windorah is small town stayed there 2 years ago , It has a Pub ,servo and general store also a great Tourist information centre , There is a very cheap basic caravan park council run with power and hot showers , we came in from Quilpie , You can also free camp out of town on the cooper creek , When we left Windorah we travel to Judah and onto Stonehenge which has a good country pub and a basic cheap caravan park run by the council , Then from there went onto Longreach all good black tar road , You can also head off from this road onto dirt roads to Isisford and Blackall .
Hi, Agree with brickies. Cooper Creek about 8kl east has the bestest free camping in Oz IMO. On the western bank terriffic campsites run both North & South for klm,s. On the Eastern bank there is plenty of good camping to the North side with drop toilets. To the South side really nice creek camp sites suitable for OFF roaders. I normally set up on the western side as it's usually a bit more isolated.
Hopefully conditions will have improved by the time you get there. I was planning to head out to Birdsville from Charleville via Windorah next week for the Big Red Bash but the road condition reports have prompted me to abort that - have put my ticket up for re-sale so hopefully will get most of the cost back.

Mate of mine is currently there to pick up his van, having 'slipped' down the Birdsville track without it & back the long way on the blacktop as the Strzelecki was closed. Wasn't game to go back up the worsening Birdsville Track.
The Cooper is rising & might be over the bridge by morning extending his stay.
No mobile coverage there he says, but everything green.
